Pro-Life Pro-Life ACE Wings • Our Holy Father has called us to be “Pro-Life, from conception to natural death” • A minimum of 5 Public Pro-Life events are required to qualify for the Texas State Council Pro-Life ACE Wings Award. 4 out of the 5 events must have to do with the unborn, such as: Pro-Life Masses Pro-Life Sidewalk Counseling Pro-Life Parades Volunteer Work at Women’s Center Pro-Life Rosary Processions March For Life Pro-Life Award Dinners Hike For Life Run For Life Other “qualified”* public events

Pro-Life Pro-Life ACE Wings continued • The 5th item can be either a Pro-Life event as described above, or it can be an item such as: • Volunteering for work at a Special Olympics event • Volunteering for work at a hospice, nursing home, or veterans hospital • Providing entertainment for the residents of a hospice, nursing home, or veterans hospital • Other “qualified”* events (“qualified”* as acceptable in the sole judgment of the State Pro-Life Chairman)

Pro-Life Pro-Life ACE Wingscontinued • A member may also request a set of wings for his spouse (if she has earned them), and he will be required to pay $8 (includes shipping). • A Council may present the ACE Wings Award once a year to a non-Knight in their local community that has demonstrated a very strong Pro-Life stance. The Council will be billed $8 for the wings. • The ACE Wings Award Form is available on the Knights of Columbus web site, www.tkofc.org.

  6. Corporate Communion - Primary focus for 2006-2007 Brings Knights of Columbus families together to attend mass and receive holy communion. Recognition: Councils that conduct four or more Corporate Communions during the fraternal year (July 1, 2006 - June 30, 2007) will receive a Special Certificate. Texas State Programs Committee will recognize 1st, 2nd & 3rd place Awards for three of the Church Activities programs submitted for consideration by March 15, 2007. Church/Liturgy Programs

  7. Additional Recommended Programs Project Moses Focus is on creating awareness and keeping the Ten Commandments. Erect a monument to display the Ten Commandments publicly. Cost is about $4,000 - $4,500.   8. Additional Recommended Programs Prayer For World Peace Pray three Our Fathers at the end of the business meeting for World Peace and the prayer to Fr. McGivney for the Canonization of Fr. McGivney. Pray three Hail Mary’s at any event and/or following the three Our Father’s to end abortion.   9. Additional Recommended Programs Adoration, Community, Theology and Service (ACTS) Conduct a three day retreat with members and family to focus on prayer, testimonials and unity. Set up separate retreats for men and women.   10. ADOPT A SEMINARIAN” PROGRAM (RSVP) Primary focus – To financially help the seminarians reach their goal of becoming a priest. STATE GOAL: 100% of the seminarians throughout all the Diocese in Texas by January 31, 2007. Steps to reach this goal: Councils should appoint a Council Vocations Chairman. Obtain a listing of the seminarians assigned to your Diocese. Providing support means financial, moral and personal contact with the Seminarians. Contact and advise the State Chairman and Diocesan Vocations Director of your pledge and donation. Vocations/Seminarians Support

ADOPT A SEMINARIAN” PROGRAM (RSVP) To qualify for RSVP, the check MUST BE MADE PAYABLE TO THE SEMINARIAN and mailed to the Diocesan Vocations Director in your diocese to receive credit from the Texas State Council and Supreme. REFUND SUPPORT VOCATIONS PROGRAM (RSVP)… Refer to the Council Report Forms Booklet and the Supreme / Texas State Council guidelines flyer in this section for the refund criteria.   12. Provide “MORAL SUPPORT” Get acquainted with your seminarian. Send birthday greetings. Send monthly stipend for personal items. Invite him to council functions and socials. Recruithim to join the Knights of Columbus. Vocations/Seminarians Support

  13. VOCATIONS PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS… Say a Vocations prayer during your council /assembly meetings. Obtain and distribute vocation cards and flyers. Ask volunteers to pray for Vocations with their family, weekly/monthly. Vocations/Seminarians Support

  14. ANNUNITY FOR PRIESTS The Knights of Columbus are in a unique position through our insurance program to help alleviate the retirement support problem faced by every Diocese. How It Works ? Councils and/or individuals makes a minimum contribution of $300 to a priest. The priest must purchase an annuity in his name through the Knights of Columbus Insurance program. When the annuity has been set up, councils can make additional contributions to the annuity. ($50 is the minimum.) Vocations/Seminarians Support

Vocations/Seminarians Support 12/01/06 Status by Diocese • 7 of the Dioceses of Texas have reported to date. • The Dioceses of Amarillo, and Fort Worth have reported 100% support. • Notes: • The number of Seminarians are from class rosters furnished by the Diocesan Vocation Directors. • Seminarians are supported by Councils from Various Dioceses. • Seminarians of Religious Orders - assigned to a Diocese in Texas and outside the USA

  16. The official Youth Organization of the Knights of Columbus. ‘Knights in Training’, to learn leadership skills as Catholic young men. Conduct regular meetings and conduct activities for community service, Church, social events (e.g. sports) and membership recruiting. The Knights serve as Counselors Help develop them into mature, responsible Catholic leaders and when they reach age 18 to become a Knight of Columbus. Columbian Squire Circles must be sponsored by a Council or a 4th Degree Assembly. The basic requirements are: One enthusiastic dedicated Chief Counselor (must be a 3rd degree Knight). You will need at least 10 Catholic young men. The ages for Squires is presently age 10 to 18 to become a Columbian Squire. Columbian Squires Program

  17. To start a Squires Circle - Have your Financial Secretary order Kit # 1 (Columbian Squires Inquiry, Form 2935). Kit #2 will come later with books and supplies. 2nd form is #457, Notice of Intent to Establish a Circle signed by Grand Knight and State Deputy, and requires Council approval. 3rd form is #460, Charter For New Circle after you have formed the Circle. Texas is #1 in Division 2. Texas has grown from 79 Circles to 95 so far this fraternal year. The goal is to have a Squires Circle in every Council and 350 new Squires this year.   18. To start a Squires Circlecontinued Diocesan Deputies could hold Diocesan Squire conferences. Appoint a Diocesan Squires Chairman to help with regular Investitures. Make plans to have pulpit announcements telling the parishioners that the Knights of Columbus are starting a Columbian Squires Circle. Set up display table to signup new Squires. Have Financial Secretary order FREE Squires signup Form 280’s, Squire Pins, Books, Squire badge patches, brochures, posters, and handouts. YOUTH ACTIVITIES State Soccer Kickoff Tournament • Held in San Antonio TX on November 18, 2006 • 13 Diocese participated in the Soccer Challenge. • 12 Diocese competed in the State Soccer Challenge . • El Paso could not make it but a big thanks anyway. • We had 50 participants and 29 winners. • 5 boys and 5 girls advanced to the International level. • Ft. Worth 4, Austin 2, Dallas 2, San Antonio 2. • We hoped to be able to have the 2007 State Soccer Challenge at St. Matthew’s again. • Thanks to all the DD’s, GK’s and KC’s that helped. • Return this year’s unused District and Diocesan medals to the Diocesan Deputy.

  23. State Free Throw Tournament The State Free Throw will be on MARCH 17, 2007 at University of Texas at San Antonio TX. All kits (FT-KIT) should be ordered now if you missed the date. This is a wonderful opportunity to increase your recruitment. Parents that get involved and are not Knights are good candidates. January 2007 - Council tournaments February 2007 - District tournaments February 2007 - Diocese tournaments The Diocesan Deputy should: Report the winners to the State Youth Chairman Ensure State Per Capita for each Council with a participant has been paid or is current Include a copy of the Birth Certificate with the score sheets to the State Free Throw Chairman. Ensure the contestants are between 10 – 14 years old as ofJanuary 1, 2007. Youth Activities

  24. St. Christopher Award Recognize outstanding adult Scout leaders for their contribution to the spiritual growth and development of our youth through their direct support of the Scouting program. Try and get all Scout Leaders recognized by awarding them the St. Christopher Award. The forms are available on www.tkofc.org. All Bishops and Chaplains that support the Scouts are eligible. The fee for the medal, certificate and the wallet card is to be provided by the Council. The application to be completed by a Scout Leader is available on the Texas website www.tkofc.org. In concert with the National Catholic Committee on Scouting, the Knights of Columbus need to provide increased support for Scouting. Youth Activities

  26. Bowling - State Mixed Bowling Tournament August 4 & 5, 2007 in Killeen, Texas. Need more participation or it may be cancelled. Entry forms will be available in February 2007. - State Men’s & Women’s Bowling Tournament April 21 - 22, 2007, April 28 - 29, 2007 in Webster, TX Four-man Teams Entry forms will be available in early January, 2007. Golf - 2007 State Golf Tournament No site has yet been selected If there is a council interested in hosting this tournament please call Daryl to discuss the details. - 2006 State Golf Tournament … results Held in Schertz, Texas on Sep 29 – Oct 1, 2006. About 100 participants. Softball - State Softball Tournament May 26 & 27, 2007, Austin, TX at the Krieg Field New rules next year: Open Division – a council may use up to five (5) players from another council provided that council to which the pick-ups belong does not have a team entered in that same division.   29. 1. FAMILY OF THE MONTH / YEAR Recognize a Family of the Month every month. Report due to Supreme by the 15th of the following month. STATE FAMILY of the MONTH Certificate awarded for each Council that submits a Family of the Month on Form 1993A for at least eight (8) out of the twelve (12) months in the fraternal year. Councils that report awarding a Family of the Month for twelve (12) out of twelve (12) months in the fraternal year AND giving a Family of the Year Award will be given very special recognition. Because reports are due in March each year, Councils may report April, May & June of the prior fraternal year for credit toward achievement of the higher award. District Deputies with 100% of assigned Councils receiving certificates and the Diocesan Deputy with the highest percentage of certificate winners will also receive special recognition. AWARD CRITERIA: Participation reports kept by Supreme will be used to determine. STATE FAMILY of the YEAR (Special Note) A State Family of the Year will be chosen for special recognition by the State Council from among all of the entries received from Councils by March 15, 2007. This family is then submitted to Supreme’s Family of the Year competition. Family Programs

  31. 2. Additional Family Programs Recommended: Knights of Columbus “Week of the Family” Activity Second week of August. Plan a special Family Activity (pool party, picnic, sports outing, etc.) to recognize this week. Adopt a Needy Family for the Holidays Work with your parish to identify one or more needy families to be sponsored by the Council at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Involve the entire family in this wonderful act of charity. Include the Family in all Community Activities Volunteering at the local food pantry or community kitchen, street or park cleanup days, and Special Olympics. Teach them while they’re young that service is a blessing! Annual Council Awards & Ladies’ Appreciation Hold an Annual Awards event to thank all who contribute to the Council’s success. ALWAYS give special recognition to our wives. Invite all deceased members’ spouses Recognize the Knight of the Year and Family of the Year at this special event.   32. SHINING ARMOR AWARD Program Develop a new Knight by setting clear goals to strive for. Have plenty of “Shining Armor Award” material to give a brochure and card to each new Knight. “New Knight Brochure” on www.tkofc.org website answers many questions new members have. It can be modified to insert your Council’s name and number, the Grand Knight’s name and phone, and the Council’s regular meeting place and time. AWARD CRITERIA: The Grand Knight, District Deputy and Diocesan Deputy with the highest percentage of Shining Armor Award recipients will receive special recognition for participation in this KEY program.   33. KNIGHT of the MONTH & YEAR Award Program Make time to recognize one of your Council’s very active members each month. Provide an award certificate at the Social or Business meeting each month Let the Council members select from these monthly winners a Knight of the Year to be recognized at an Annual Awards event. AWARD CRITERIA: Councils that report awarding a Knight of the Month for at least eight (8) out of the twelve(12) months in the fraternal year will be presented a certificate of recognition.   35. Wheelchair Foundation Partnership Teamed up with the Wheelchair Foundation to help bring wheelchairs to those who lack the freedom of mobility. For a $75 contribution, a matching donation is given to the Wheelchair Foundation to purchase a $500 chair for $150. For a $75 donation, you will receive a personalized presentation certificate and a book called “Road to Purpose” from the Wheelchair Foundation. For a $150 donation, you will receive a signed book from the author, Kenneth Behring. Goal is to achieve contributions 560 wheelchairs (two containers) between January 1 – March 31, 2007. Full containers to be sent to an under developed country per a recommendation of the Wheelchair Foundation.   37. Billy Quintanilla Blood Drives Give the “Gift of Life”. Establish a Blood Drive Director or Committee to organize the drive(s). Contact the Red Cross or Blood Bank in your area to arrange a date(s). Advertise the date(s) and location in the parish bulletin and the local paper. Recognize all donors with the Knights of Columbus Blood Donor Certificate, available from Supreme. Report results after a drive but not later than March 15, 2007 to doldmixon@austin.rr.com. AWARD CRITERIA: The Grand Knight, District Deputy and Diocesan Deputy with the highest percentage of units donated per member will receive special recognition from the State.   The winner selection will be based on the number of units donated per council member (percentage).  Community Programs

  38. Support the SPECIAL OLYMPICS Over 30 years supporting the Special Olympics We encourage every council to get involved with the local committee. Supreme Council provides funds to support the State Special Olympics activities based on the number of volunteer hours provided by Knights to the Special Olympics in that state. AWARD CRITERIA: The Grand Knight, District Deputy and Diocesan Deputy with the highest percentage of hours donated per member AND dollars donated per member will receive special recognition.  Two categories of awards: Most Hours per Member and Most Dollars per Member. Data as reported on Form 4584 by January 31, 2007 will be used to calculate winners. Community Programs

Additional Recommended Programs Support Veterans & Military in your Community Volunteer in US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) hospitals, clinics, residential treatment facilities and veteran cemeteries across the nation, donating time and earning VA Volunteer Services (VAVS) credits for helping veterans. To learn about VAVS and find the nearest VA facility, go to: http://www1.va.gov/volunteer/about.html Seven Texas State Veterans Homes (TSVH) where aging veterans live out there final days with dignity. First of four planned Texas State Veterans Cemeteries (TSVC) was opened in 2005 near Fort Hood in Killeen. A second was opened near Mission in 2006. Knights placed a special memorial at cemetery near Ft Hood. Additional Recommended Programs Recognize & Support Public Safety Officials Honor Law Enforcement, Firefighters, EMS and other First Responders as a tribute to their selfless service on our behalf in the local community. Support efforts to recognize them in schools, churches and other places, especially in conjunction with youth and families. Work with your Fourth Degree Assembly to sponsor an “Appreciation Night”, or a “Blue Mass”, and give annual awards to outstanding individuals chosen by the various public safety departments.
