  2. THE EYE: • It’s the shape of a globe • About an inch in diameter

  3. PARTS OF THE EYE…

  4. IRIS: • The colored part of the eye • This is inherited from our parents

  5. THE CORNEA • The clear dome over the iris

  6. THE PUPIL • The black circle in the middle of the eye • Lets light into the eye so we can see

  7. THE SCLERA • The white part

  8. THE CONJUNCTIVA • An invisible clear layer that covers the front of the eye • Does NOT cover the cornea

  9. DETERIORATION OF THE EYE • DETERIORATE- to become worse, to go bad.

  10. AGE-RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION • To lose vision in both eyes • Happens to older people

  11. CATARACTS • When the pupil becomes cloudy • Doesn’t allow light into the eye • Makes it difficult to see

  12. GLAUCOMA • Pressure inside of the eye (eye feels like it’s being pushed or squeezed) • Makes vision deteriorate
