Agenda • Further Questions on RLE PPT • Explanation of what we will do • Groups (depends on numbers) to look at • Criteria A & B • Criteria C& D • Approx 1-1.5 hour • Assign Categories in plenary (0.5 hours) • So What – we have a risk assessment what does it mean in terms of conservation action ? (0.5 hours) • Closure – summary of what done!

Groups • (depending on data available for exercise) • Discuss changes that have taken place in ecosystem condition, extent etc. Use worksheets to summarize discussions • If not enough data – use your own views, experience, and opinions • Don’t panic if you don’t have all the data can list as DD (data deficient) or NE (not evaluated). But give it your best shot!!! • Come to some agreement on Risk assessment category (and why) for the criteria you are working with. • Present and discuss in plenary

Bordna Mona – major employer vs. ecosystem services (where can people be employed – green energy – wind – job opps • Social – cutters convince?? • Not one Dept to deal with (agric., forestry, envr., energy, habitats directive) • MEA’s, value of services • Public imagination and why social educ. • Research- baselines what are they – agri-envr schemes + Connectivity in bogs?? – so corridors. How res can really inform • Improved biodiveristy (e.x. otters) • Role of opps – tourism • Our peat small by comparision to russia – so is their political will • Grass roots – make it relevant to voters!! – e.g. Birdwatch Ireland • Economic models, - tourism, other forms of employment, cranberries • Cultural connections – make an opportunity, cultural love for peatlands (ex. Of UK Fenlands) • Financial beneift

  7. Who?? • Communicate in “language” – media, • Awareness at diff levels • We are stubborn lot – how to foster change – whats the incentive to change when bord no mona do if!! • Change at multiple levels • Need to focus not on just SSEs • Its not we know best!! – we all knowledge!!
