  3. General Goals of the Session 1. To navigate creatively through the CLEAR Horizontal and Vertical Alignment Planning Guides in a hands-on way. 2. To offer virtual and physical TEKS-aligned activities that integrate high-yield instructional strategies, andreview the TEKS for aligned mastery, without sacrificing rigor and/or engagement. 3. To use Houston’s familiar landmarks as metaphor--from "610" through "Beltway 8", for “mapping out” inroads and intersections between the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade math TEKS to support their introduction, review and mastery.   To use the familiarity of Houston as a metacognitive link for teachers to use CLEAR in a learner-friendly ways To help you customize the games you need for your kids to succeed.

  4. AGENDA Introductions & Overview “I Need a Map” (Metacognitive Math Test Tools) & Rainbow Foldable Review Notes as Map Let’s Play! 5. City 345 Today Contains Make and Take that Reviews these Sessions Creativity (Differentiation) “CLEARLY” linked with TEA Mathematics

  6. Again, we start with our key questions: What math content and processes do we want our students to internalize as they review ? How will we know when they’ve learned it? What do we do when they have not learned it? What else do we do when they have?

  7. What Best Practices Are Met when using Make & Take Games as Metaphor for TAKS Prep? Marzano High-Yield Strategies are fully addressed: 1. Nonlinguistic representation 2. Identifying similarities & differences 3. Cooperative Learning 4. Setting objectives/providing feedback 5. Questions, cues and advance organizers 6. Summarizing and Note-Taking 7. Generating and Testing Hypothesis 8. Homework and Practice

  8. COUNTDOWN… • If you teach 5th grade Math, why are you here?—Preparing for the next round or for next year! • The key at this time of year is to also have THEM do it! Tell them, “things work when you do!” Get big butcher block paper and have them bring their finished product to a problem solving parking lot. • They have to get out and use the keys to drive towards their best on the test! • Focus on Global Review Games for kids that get it without targeted intervention: HAPG City 345 Hanger, HAPG Hopscotch, Card Games etc.
