  2. About JCI Tripoli • Founded in February 2006 • Located in Tripoli, second largest city of Lebanon with a population of 500,000 • 38 members, 1 senator • Current Membership profile: small business entrepreneurs, school teachers, and limited number of university students

  3. JCI Tripoli Recruitment Recruitment Opportunities: • Good proportion of population falling into the young and educated category (16-30 years) • Lack of leadership and training programs in the city • Acute stagnating economic conditions leaving great room for leadership initiatives

  4. JCI Tripoli Recruitment Recruitment Challenges: • Weak volunteerism culture • High level of skepticism towards effectiveness and integrity of NGOs and non political orientation

  5. JCI Tripoli Recruitment Strategy: 1. Focus recruitment efforts through selectively targeting the most promising audience 2. Planning direct and indirect recruitment activities 3. Enhancing current members involvement in recruitment efforts

  6. JCI Tripoli Recruitment 1. Target Audience • Focus on recruiting young entrepreneurs running new small businesses as well as senior university students • Fine tune recruitment presentations to highlight JCI’s role in catering to the aspirations of the various targeted groups

Planned Activities: • Direct recruitment activities: Hold interactive quarterly recruitment sessions. • Indirect recruitment activities: Market JCI in several events around the city, produce press releases and news updates in periodicals and on website, organize training sessions in collaboration with universities, local NGOs and local professional associations

  8. JCI Tripoli Recruitment 3. Membership Involvement • Provide incentives to existing members to recruit and mentor new members • Allocate a percentage of fund raising events revenues to finance recruitment and orientation activities

JCI Tripoli Membership Retention Challenges • Acute scarceness of sustainable economic growth/job opportunities for young professionals resulting in high member turn over • Irregular meeting attendance • Ineffective internal communication • Lack of participation in international and JCI core training events

JCI Tripoli Membership Retention Retention Strategy • Appeal to entrepreneurs with networking and economic opportunities • Provide variety by alternating trainings and social activities as after meetings • Encourage members to propose projects and training topics that interest them • Design a more flexible internal communication policy • Assist members who wish to compete in JCI competitions and/or attend international conferences

  12. 2006 Programs Community: • Displaced families relief activities provided life supplies and entertainment for devastated children • Set up a plan with other NGOs for offering trainings on best practices in crisis management

  13. 2006 Programs Business: • Training young entrepreneurs on marketing their businesses and events aimed at boosting the economic activity in the regions in which they operate (Back to Joy event) • Members participate as sponsors for JCI events • Collaborate with local associations and institutions on providing trainings and business forums

  14. 2006 Programs International: • Twinning with other Local Organizations in Tunisia and France whose theme is focused on cultural and touristic exchange • Participation in JCI International conferences and trainings

  15. Marketing • Participation in Tripoli Mini Marathon in April 2006 to promote JCI • Articles published in various magazines and periodicals about JCI Tripoli, such as the article in Al Shabab News Magazine shown at right

Goals for 2007 • Increase Membership body by 50% and increase diversity of backgrounds • Continuously support young entrepreneurs and close partnership with other NGOs in Tripoli on after-crisis sustainable development projects • Assist in launching new Local Organizations regionally • Focus activities around the year’s local theme “Hand-Craft: hope for a sustainable local economy” • Participate in international JCI events and competitions and have several prime graduates • Participate in the National Organization’s flagship projects and projects with other Lebanese Local Organizations and the AMDEC North meeting
