  2. Life Skills is … • A program to empower young people to make informed and healthy decisions in the face of often confusing and conflicting information and lifestyles.

  3. Sub-divided into age appropriate sets of materials: • Package 1 for grade 6 and 7 students 11-12 years • Package 2 for grade 8 and 9 students 13-14 years • Package 3 for school leavers/ drop-outs 16-19 years • Package 4 for youth

  4. Description of the packages • composed of 4 packages • developed in a modular format. • most areas and content are based on life skills, • it is also incorporated with reproductive health information

  5. Currently Maldives is experiencing a period of rapid socio-economic and cultural change. • Factors such as: • growing drug use • limited employment opportunities • Urbanisation • high divorce rates • strains of the family unit • exposure to consumerism • the erosion of traditional culture contribute to daily stressors experienced by the young people of Maldives

  6. Perceptions in ……. • The religious beliefs • The cultural barriers • Its taboo to talk on the topic • The level of understanding

  7. The Challenges ……… Taking sessions on • HIV/ AIDS • Self Awareness • STD / STI • Conception & Pregnancy • Relationship

  8. Why do we have to take these challenging session • Create awareness • Increase adolescents Reproduction Health • Make informed and healthy wise decision on there own. • Act positively to sexual peer pressure. • Keep informed about risky behaviours
