INTRODUCTION • Indonesia is an archipelagic state and a maritime nation with 17.508 islands and one of the longest coastal line (92.139 kms). • Indonesia’s water contain the world’s biggest Marine Mega-Biodiversity. • There are also non-living resources: minerals and natural gas, and environmental services such as sea current, sea wave, salinity differences, and ocean layer’s temperature difference for the application of Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion(OTEC).

Government Support Presidential Decree on the Indonesiamembership and its contributions in CTI-CFF; Presidential Decree on the CTI-CFF National Plans of Actions (NPOA)of Indonesia and National Coordinating Committe of Indonesia; To encourage actively participation of the other Ministries within the Government of Indonesia Securing financial support to the implementation of the Regional Plans of Actions (RPOA) and National Plans of Actions (NPOA) Mainstreaming the CTI-CFF in the Strategic Development Plan and medium-term development plan (RPJM) by National Development Planning Agency of Indoensia (Bappenas)

  5. Local Government Participation Dissemination to the Local Government; Wakatobi Support Leaders Communiqué and the Manila Declaration; The Official announcement letter to the local government agencies.

BLUE ECONOMY • MMAF develop a new policy “Sustainable Development of Marine and Fisheries based on Blue economy Concept”. • It is adopted from Gunter Pauli’s principle in his book “Blue Economy: 10 years, 100 innovations, and 100 million jobs” and other references such as Sustainable Development from the World Commission on Environment and Development (WCED) and Green Economy from the United Nation on Environmental Programme (UNEP).

PRINCIPLES OF MARINE AND FISHERIES POLICY BASED ON BLUE ECONOMY • Balanced growth and equitable sharing. • Natural resource Efficiency. • Zero emission and waste. • Interdependency and connectivity. • Social friendly / care. • Sustainability. • Commodities (Blue Economy Business Model) and regional based.

  9. COMMODITIES AND REGIONAL APPROACH • Commodities (Blue Economy Business Model): based on superior commodities and resources utilization efficiency with zero emission and waste. Also includes integrated management of natural resources with natural and ecosystem enrichment. • Development of Blue Economy region: developing a region based on its potential. Conducted based on the following development pattern: 1) islands cluster, 2) bay and coastal region, dan 3) conservation area.
