  3. Where would you ask about…? In four groups – You will be given a set of FAQ’s asked at the Student Support Centres. In your group place the questions on the area of the University you would ask that question. A prize will be given to the team with the most correct answers. • The areas of the University are: • General Enquiries (SSC Front Desk) • Programme Advisory Service (PAS) • Student Records and Fees • Support and Advisory Service • Assessment and Awards • Learning and Information Services (LIS) • Careers

The Student Support Centres are made up of the following student facing areas: • Enquiry Services (SSC Front Desk) • Support and Advisory Service • Student Records and Fees • Assessment and Awards • Programme Advisory Service (PAS) The department (SSIS) also includes: Career Development Centre within the Learning Centre

  7. What does General Enquiries do? • Assignment Hand In • Council Tax Certificates • Car Parking • Record Forms • ID cards • Student confirmation Letters • ECF Enquiries • International Enquiries • Signpost for Information

  8. Where can I find the General Enquiries Desk? Located at all Student Support Centres: Kedleston Road: Ground Floor – B Block Britannia Mill: Ground Floor – Room G02 Markeaton Street: First Floor – Room 113 Buxton: Clarendon House (SAS)

  9. How can the Support and Advisory Service help me? • The Support and Advisory Service has advisors to help with: • Support Co-ordination • Note Takers • Sign Language Interpreters • Library Support • Educational Support • Mental Health

  10. Disability Support • Dyslexia assessment • Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) • Assessment of study needs • Support Plans • As well as: • Mental Health co-ordination

  11. Financial Problems • Student Loans • Grants and Bursaries • Access to Learning Fund (ALF) • Applications for Career Development Loans • Benefits information • Budget management

  12. International Advice • Finance • Academic support • Personal and welfare issues • Visa and immigration • Accommodation • Mentoring • Career development and employment

  13. General Advice • Housing/accommodation information • Referrals for counselling/mental health support • Benefits/welfare rights • Assistance with ALF applications • Fees and bursaries

  14. Where can I find the Support and Advisory Service? Located at all Student Support Centres: Kedleston Road: Ground Floor – B Block Buxton: Clarendon House

What does the Student Records and Fees team do? • Student Records and Fees are based at the Kedleston Road Student Support Centre, and are available to help students with: • Enrolment • Tuition Fees (including LEA) • Accredited Prior Learning (APL) • Module/programme changes • Withdrawals and Intercalations (breaks from study) • Online Forms

  16. Who are Assessment and Awards? • The Assessment and Awards team are also based at the Kedleston Road Student Support Centre, and are available to help students with: • Statement of Achievements • Transcripts • Exams • Results • Graduation

Who are the Programme Advisory Service (PAS)? • PAS are based at both the Kedleston Road Student Support Centre and room DO/109 in Buxton, and are available to help students with: • Understanding your credit accumulation • Module results • Planning your programme of study • Guidance on understanding your programmes structure • Programme change advice • Joint Honours and Open Credit Scheme counselling appointments • Information signpost

  19. What’s all this noise about Ask Us? Ask Us is an online automated Q&A service for current students, providing generic information on the University Support Services mentioned in this session. • Unlike a search engine, Ask Us provides its answers in response to full questions, to save time and avoid confusing academic terminology. • Answers also include: • URL links • Email and contact details • Further information through dropdown boxes Ask Us is conveniently found at: www.derby.ac.uk/current-students

In two teams we want you to find the information a student would require for the following: • Find where to view grades • Order a graduation gown • Independent Study • Food vouchers • No. of books can be taken out from the Learning Centre • Take a break from study • Change a module • Make a photocopy • Change personal details • Contact the BCL Student Liaison Officer Team one will use the web site search engine. Team two will use Ask Us. The first to find all of the above WINS!
