We make good guesses together regarding new vocabulary and word meanings. • Use poems and songs to teach phonetic language patterns in a fun and meaningful way. Other phonics work is included during this time as well. • Interactive Read Alouds – teacher stops within stories to question students and for them to make predictions.

  8. Guided Reading Program • We will be using leveled books to teach students in small groups. • Look for these books to come home sometime in November. • Please sign Literacy Contract. Your child may not bring home books until I have this contract. • Practice reading daily (with, by, and to)

  9. Station Time! • This is an independent work time for students. • I will see work done at this time, but I may or may not correct it. • Ask your child about station work when you see it, and take this opportunity to discuss what they are learning in class. • If you feel they are capable of better work (handwriting, pictures, etc), please discuss this with them.

  10. Writer’s Workshop • Our goal is to help students become independent writers. • Encourage your student to try spelling words by themselves using the sounds they hear. • Let them know that it is ok if everything is not spelled perfectly. • Reading like a Writer – using authors as models for good writing.

Please pack them separately and label them. • When eating lunch with your child – Please send your child back to their class table when we call for 5 minutes of silence and clean-up. Please exit the cafeteria at that time. Also, please do not follow your child’s class down the hall. It may cause disruptive behavior in our line. • Please do not tell your child you are coming to have lunch with them if you are not sure or can’t be there. It’s better to have a surprise than a disappointment. Also, please be on time. If you are bringing your child a lunch and you are not there, they will have to go in the lunch line due to the limited lunch time.
