  1. Wallwisher Presented by : Kerrie Bell

  2. What is Wallwisher? • “Wallwisheris an Internet application that allows people to express their thoughts on a common topic easily.” • Cite: http://wallwisher.comn • Use of “notes” in order to communicate questions, answers, opinions or concerns between students, teachers

  3. How to begin… • Click on the link under “build a wall” called “it’s the next fastest thing to light. • You can sign in using any email or with your Google account. • The Google accounts allow users to access external services more easily. It helps one to minimize the amount of accounts and user names that one has to use!

  4. Privacy Note • The makers of the site confirm that your information will be safe because your passwords will not be used on their machines.. • If you choose not to review every post (recommended for teachers though) then it is recommended that one periodically check their wall to make sure no bad posts are posted

  5. How to begin continued… • After entering in your email address, create a title and select a picture in which you would like to show in the upper left hand corner • Then, you can select a specific url, if you would like to make it more specific. • I would recommend that you create a specific url because if you do not then the site will assign it a longer, more complicated one.

  6. How to begin continued…. • Next, choose your privacy settings • These include: • who can view the wall • who can post sticky notes • and whether or not you will have to approve the posts to the wall.

  7. Choose a Theme! • Now you can choose a theme • In other words, select the color theme in which your wall will look like. • When you are done with this, them select done  • Now you are able to post notes to your wall! • Note: You can always go back and edit your settings on privacy, color, title, etc.

  8. Side Note… • You can create more than one wall and access them every time you log in. • You can look at your different walls by clicking on your name in the upper right hand corner and then by going to “My Home” • The site automatically (and frequently) saves your work as you create it.

  9. Unique Aspects About Wallwisher • You can add the following links to Wallwisher: • Videos (such as Youtube) • Links to websites (such as wikispaces) • Websites are shown in a pop up viewer and all links from the site can be accessed. • One may even play a video from within the website! • Links to show pictures • Must use URLs or pictures—Right click on the picture and press copy image url

  10. Common Questions… • When I move stickies, some are moved permanently while some are not. Why so? • The creator of the site can permanently move the sticky notes • The creator of the sticky note can also move his or her own note, but not others • While in a session on someone else’s wall, one may move the sticky notes, but not permanently in order to protect each person’s comment.

  11. Common Questions… • Why the 160 character limit on text? • People want to get their message across fast and easy, so the creators used the same amount of characters that a standard SMS on a cell phone is. • Users can always use more than one post if necessary, but it’s a great way for students learn how to write efficiently.

  12. Common Questions… • Can I embed my Wallwisher? • Yes! One can embed their wall wisher • Furthermore, one can share their Wallwisher on Facebook, through email, Myspace, and 350+ social networks or websites!

  20. Assure Model • Rationale for Research: In order to inform students on how to use Wallwisher and its applications. • Standard: 2. Communication and Collaboration. Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others.

  21. Assure Model A • Audience-  • General characteristics:  There are 9 students. There are seven girls and two boys. All students are Caucasian. The income levels are low middle to high middle class families. • Exceptionalities: There are no exceptionalities. • Specific characteristics (content related): This is a technology class and this lesson is technology related. Students must have a knowledge of how to use the internet and copy sites to link them to Wallwisher; however, the site is so self-explanatory that not much previous knowledge is needed.

  22. Assure Model S • State Learning Objective(s) for the lesson in ABCD format.Base your Learning Objective(s) on  Standard, Benchmark, and Grade-Level Indicator: Students will listen to the presentation, join Wallwisher and post a sticky to the presenter’s Wallwisher site. • Which of the three types of objectives is your Learning Objective? This is a cognitive learning objective.

  23. Assure Model S • Select Materials : I will need the computer lab, printed out handouts as well as the smartboard.  U • Utilize Materials:   Explain how materials will be used to meet the Learning Objective(s).  • We will be using Cooperative Learning ; Discussion/Questioning; Reflection/Response (response with a sticky note); Discovery (students will go through the site and try it out). R • Require Student Interaction:  • Students will not be grouped, but they will have to register on Wallwisher, post to my Wallwisher and post a link to a website, video and picture.
