SUMELA kolostor, Törökország
A Fekete-tenger keleti partvidékének fontos török kikötővárosa; Trabzon. Közelében, erdőkkel borított hegyek között , meredek sziklaszirtre épült a sumelai Szűz Mária-ko-lostor. Barlangtemplomát 406.-ban alapították, majd a VI.sz.-ban épültek mellé a kiegészítő épületek. A XIX.sz. végén még száz görög szerzetes lakta. 1923 után elnéptelenedett. Barlangtemplomának falait gyönyörű freskók diszítik. Bejárati kapujához 64 lépcsőfokos feljáró vezet.
