Effective Implementation matters for the success of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) & the New Urban Agenda (NUA) • The implementation of the NUA contributes to theimplementation and localization of the SDGs in an integrated manner • NUA should not been viewed in isolation, but as a means for implementing the SDGs ‘implementation’ appears 141 times in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development 38 times in Quito Declaration

Paragraph 166 of the Quito Declaration specifies the need for periodic reporting on the progress of the implementation of the NUA • The World Cities Report (WCR) can serve as a Reporting Mechanism on the implementation of the NUA and the SDGs • How can the WCR 2018 contribute to the implementation of the NUA & SDGs? Following the endorsement of the NUA & SDGs, the WCR 2018 will focus on the implementation both global agendas

Aim of the World Cities Report 2018 • Key aim of the WCR 2018 is to undertake an analysis of what needs to be done for the effective implementation of the New Urban Agenda • How can national, subnational and local governments implement the NUA and the urban components of SDGs? • Being the first issue since the endorsement of the NUA, the WCR 2018 represents a reporting mechanism that assesses the implementation of the NUA
