  3. Empire Builders • Read “Empire Builders” pg. 194-195 • Many people surrendered without even fighting them. • The Mongols created the largest empire in history. • The Mongols grew wealthy because they taxed traders in their empire. • Genghis Khan’s grandson, Kublai Khan, conquered China.

The Significance of the Mongols • Pg 196 – 3rd paragraph • The Mongol Empire was the link between China, Asia, and Europe. • **The Mongols learned from the people they conquered and often adopted their beliefs and customs. • For example, Mongols near the Arabian peninsula accepted Islam. • Mongols near China learned of gunpowder and the fire lance.

Use your notes and the readings to help! • 1st status- Either about him leaving Venice Italy, his travels across the Gobi, or him describing Kublai Khan’s palace. • 2nd-4th status-Needs to be about the different technologies or inventions Marco witnessed during his stay • 5th status- Needs to be about Marco’s return home, him in prison with Rustichello, or his last words. Requirements- Has to be at least 2 full sentences for each status update. For extra credit add emojis, hashtags, tag another person, and/or make it funny! The funnier it is, the better your grade will be!
