  3. Did you know? You do not need to remove staples from papers, windows from envelopes, or metal bindings from spiral notebooks. Plastic spouts from half-gallon size milk or juice cartons can be left on. Paper cups are not recyclable, due to the waxy lining, but the cardboard sleeve is. TIP: The bottom of a pizza box is not recyclable, but if the top remains clean and grease free it can be torn off and recycled.

  4. PLASTIC Pop bottles Laundry soap tubs Dairy tubs Condiment bottles Shampoo bottles

  5. Did you know? Containers should be rinsed with no food residue. Plastic caps and lids are not recyclable. In Thurston County, the number on the bottom of the plastic container does not tell you if it is recyclable. Containers with a neck smaller than the base are recyclable. Tubs that hold dairy products are recyclable. Buckets (kitty litter, 5-gallon) are recyclable but they must be clean with handles removed.

  6. METAL Aluminum cans Tin cans Pots & pans

  7. Did you know? Metals are one of the most valuable resources in our waste stream. In Thurston County, the recycling plant’s sorting equipment has an easier time with cans that are not flattened. So, no need to flatten your cans.

  8. 1,500 Plastic Bags are taken home each year by average American family. • It can take over 1,000 years for a plastic bag to break down. • Nationwide less than 5% of our plastic bags get recycled. • Plastic bags are the second-most common type of ocean refuse. • July 1, 2014 stores in Tumwater, Lacey, Olympia, and unincorporated Thurston County will no longer be allowed to give out plastic bags.
