  2. What is sea floor spreading? • Sea Floor Spreading is the formation of new crust from magma coming to the surface at a divergent plate boundary. • As the plates continues to move apart the new crust is separated equally on both sides.

  4. How do we know this? • Magnetic Reversal: When the magnetic field reverses. • Rocks on both sides of fault contain the same magnetic signatures. • Scientists also dated rocks from both sides and found that the youngest rocks were near the fault.

  5. What is a mid-ocean ridge? A Mid Ocean Ridge is an underwater mountain range made from new lava cooling at a divergent plate boundary.
