  2. ADULT DAYCARE PROGRAM CRITERIA TO ATTEND ADC DEMENTIA DIAGNOSIS 26 CLIENTS AVERAGE DAILY ATTENDANCE 18 STAFF TO CLIENT RATIO ¼ IN-HOUSE ½ OUTINGS VOLUNTEER ROLES ASSIST ON OUTINGS PARTICIPATE IN CRAFTS, GAMES AND OTHER SPECIAL EVENTS MAKING A DIFFERENCE WE APPRECIATE OUR VOLUNTEERS!
  3. PURPOSE UNDERSTAND THE RIGHTS GUARANTEED TO ALL U.S. CITIZENS UNDERSTAND THE RIGHTS GUARANTEED TO ALL PERSONS RECEIVING MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES IN MICHIGAN 58% OF ADULT DAYCARE PROGRAM CLIENTS RECEIVE MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES
  4. A RIGHT IS…… THAT WHICH IS ENTITLED TO HAVE, TO DO, OR TO RECEIVE FROM OTHERS, WITHIN THE LIMITS PRESCRIBED BY LAW. SO A RIGHT MUST: MUST BE DEFINED BY LAW AND HAVE A LEGAL MEANS OF PROTECTING THAT RIGHT
  5. AMOUNG THE RIGHTS GUARANTEED TO EVERYONE RELIGIOUS EXPRESSION FREEDOM OF SPEECH SEARCH AND SEIZURE DUE PROCESS LEGAL PROTECTION VOTING *PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES HAVE THE SAME RIGHTS AS YOU. FOR PERSONS RECEIVING MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES IN MICHIGAN, THESE RIGHTD MAY ,HOWEVER, BE LIMITED UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES, AS OUTLINED IN THE MICHIGAN MENTAL HEALTH CODE AND ADMINISTRATIVE RULES.
  6. MICHIGAN MENTAL HEALTH CODE“THE CODE” PEOPLE WHO RECEIVE MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES ARE REFERRED TO BY LAW, AS RECIPIENTS THE CODE GIVES RECIPIENTS THE RIGHT TO RECEIVE APPROPRIATE MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES AND TO BE TREATED WITH DIGNITY AND RESPECT.
  7. SOME OF THE RIGHTS GUARANTEED UNDER THE CODE ADMISSION AND DISCHARGE RIGHTS CIVIL RIGHTS COMMUNICATION AND VISITATION RIGHTS CONFIDENTIALITY AND DISCLOSURE RIGHTS ENVIRONMENTAL RIGHTS MONEY RIGHTS PERSONAL PROPERTY RIGHTS FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT RIGHTS TREATMENT RIGHTS
  8. RIGHTS VERSUS PRIVILEGES STAFF/VOLUNTEERS SHOULD DISTINGUISH BETWEEN RIGHTS AND PRIVILEGES IN THEIR TREATMENT OF RECIPIENTS. A RIGHT IS SOMETHING A RECIPIENT HAS A CLAIM TO; IT BELONGS TO THE RECIPIENT BY LAW; THE RECIPIENT IS ENTITLED TO IT. A PRIVILEGE IS AN ADVANTAGE OF FAVOR GIVEN TO A RECIPIENT OR GROUPS OF RECIPIENTS THAT MAY BE WITHHELD FOR VARIOUS REASONS. PRIVILEGES MAY BE ‘EARNED’; RIGHTS CANNOT BE EARNED
  9. CONFIDENTIALITY CONFIDENTIALITY IS THE PRINCIPLE THAT ALL STAFF MUST PROTECT WRITTEN AND UNWRITTEN INFORMATION GAINED WHILE PROVIDING MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES. CONFIDENTIALITY IS A RIGHT OF EVERY RECIPIENT OF MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES. DON’T GIVE OUT INFORMATION- YOUR FIRST RESPONSIBILITY IS TO GUARD RECIPIENT RIGHTS CONCERNING CONFIDENTIALITY.

EXAMPLES OF VIOLATING CONFIDENTIALITY TALKING ABOUT A RECIPIENT OUTSIDE OF THE VNA REFERRING TO RECIPIENTS BY NAME WHEN DISCUSSING WORK WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS GIVING OUT INFORMATION OVER THE PHONE TO PERSONS WHO SAY THEY ARE RELATIVES TAKING PHOTOS OR VIDEOS LISTENING IN ON A RECIPIENTS PHONE CONVERSATION
  11. RESPECTING CONFIDENTIALITY MEANS YOU CANNOT DISCUSS WHAT HAPPENED WITH ANY RECIPIENT WHEN NOT AT WORK, OR WITH PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT AUTHORIZED TO RECEIVE INFORMATION ABOUT A PARTICULAIR RECIPIENT. MAKE SURE THERE IS NO WAY UNAUTHORIZED PERSONS CAN IDENTIFY RECIPIENTS
  12. ABUSE AND NEGLECT ABUSE HARM OR THREATENED HARM TO A RECIPIENTS HEALTH OR WELFARE CAUSED BY ANOTHER PERSON. ABUSE INCLUDES NON-ACCIDENTAL PHYSICAL OR MENTAL INJURY, SEXUAL ABUSE OR MALTREATMENT. NEGLECT HARM TO A RECIPIENT’S HEALTH OR WELFARE CAUSED BY THE CONDUCT OF A PERSON RESPONSIBLE FOR THE RECIPIENT’S HEALTH OR WELFARE. NEGLECT INCLUDES THE FAILURE TO PROVIDE ADEQUATE FOOD, CLOTHING, SHELTER OR MEDICAL CARE.
  13. REPORTING ABUSE AND NEGLECT REMEMBER- PROTECTING THE RECIPIENT IS YOUR FIRST AND MOST IMPORTANT RESPONSIBILTIY REPORT ANY INJURIES OR UNUSUAL BEHAVIORS TO THE ADCP SUPERVISOR
  14. RESPONSIBILITIES YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN ACTS FAILURE TO ACT APPROPRIATELY OR QUICKLY IMMEDIATE REPORTING OF ABUSE REPORTING UNSAFE CONDITIONS OR RIGHT VIOLATIONS INTERVENING TO STOP ABUSIVE ACTIONS OF STAFF INTERVENING TO STOP THE ACTIONS OF AGGRESSIVE OR ABUSIVE INDIVIDUALS IN THE RESIDENTIAL COMMUNITY
  15. RECIPIENT RESPONSIBILITIES RECIPIENTS ALSO HAVE THE SAME RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THEIR ACTIONS THEY MAY BE HELD LEGALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR BREAKING THE LAW THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR TAKING CARE OF THEIR PERSONAL PROPERTY THEY MAY ASK THE FACILITY TO STORE ITEMS OF VALUE FOR SAFEKEEPING THEY SHOULD NOT INTERFER WITH THE TREATMENT OR CARE OF OTHERS

REVIEW RIGHTS OF MENTAL HEALTH RECIPIENTS IN MICHIGAN ARE GUARANTEED BY THE MENTAL HEALTH CODE RIGHTS CANNOT BE LIMITED THERE IS A RIGHT TO BE SAFE FROM HARM ALL STAFF HAVE A PERSONAL RESPONSIBILTY TO REPORT SERIOUS THREATS OF VIOLENCE TO THE THREATENED PERSONS WITH AUTHORITIES A PERSON WITH DISABILITIES HAS THE RIGHT TO VOTE IF HE/SHE IS OVER 18 AND REGISTERED TO VOTE RECIPIENTS ARE TO BE PROTECTED FROM DISCRIMINATION AND HAVE ACCOMODATIONS FOR THEIR PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DISABILITIES ALL INFORMATION ABOUT A RECIPIENT IS CONFIDENTIAL, UNLESS EXCEPTED BY LAW YOU MUST IMMEDIETLY REPORT RECIPIENT RIGHTS VIOLATION
  18. The Adult Day Program provides structured cognitive activities in a safe and fun home-like environment.
