I'm very pleased to see the service that Timmy's providing to the community and I know that Lafayette-West Lafayette is a better community because of the service that Timmy provides to the local community in addition to the works that they do in Ecuador.   10. What will we be doing? Sunday,Nov. 4 Meet in front of co-rec at 11:15. 11:30 AM Setup and review session activities 12:00 PM Sign in students and obtain parent emergency contact information 12:00 – 1:00 PM Activities 1:00 – 1:15 PM clean up, go home 4:00 watch the Patriots get trampled by theCOLTS!

ActivitiesReading, sharing, reading dollars • Split into groups, have a short ice breaker • Each group will have 1-2 Timmy/EWH members and hopefully 3-4 grade school students • Read short stories aloud, pass the book around in circles and encourage students to read • If we have time, we will have a short break after finishing the story • After the break, the groups will present their story.

  12. Activities Cont. • For each story the student completes, they get 1 reading dollar. They will save the money to buy books from us. • Incentive to keep students coming back • Teaches responsibility – they have to hold on to it each week (we will keep a record incase they lose it) • If there are students who want to practice their Spanish, we have some bilingual books that a group could work with

Feb. 9-10 —18 hours of dancing, games, great food, Riley families, and more! -$20 registration fee -$100/dancer, but if I have at least 20 Timmies committed to the DM, I will use my ONLY PAYCHECK FOR THE YEAR to cover a portion of everyone’s donation. -If interested and want to learn more, please see me after the meeting.

Timmy Headquarters • Founded in 1997 by Dr. Chuck Dietzen • Named after his brother • Dedicated as a living legacy to all his pediatric hospice patients • Currently run by three employees and volunteers • 10 college chapters; • Provided support in up to 9 countries • Focusing that support on three countries: • Ecuador • Dominican Republic • Guatamala

  19. Mission Statement “Building healthy futures worldwide, one child at a time. We accomplish this by strengthening community-based health and education initiatives and by empowering young people to share their energy and compassion.”

International Partner Organization • Tierra Nueva in Quito Sur, Ecuador • Founded by Father Padre Carollo in 1970 to serve Quito’s poorest residents • “Although there will always be poverty, there should not be suffering” • Began offering medical and daycare services • Built over 1,000 structures(homes, daycares, libraries, churches, schools, med centers) in 40 years • Currently building hospital • One of the oldest and most respected organizations in Quito • Number of hospital beds per 1000 residents: 4.5

Vision of Tierra Nueva Our vision is to be a respected social organization that, based in a deep Christian faith and through a network of self-sustaining programs and projects, offers a viable alternative to meet the basic needs of poor families in high-risk situations, especially those needs related to health and education.

Timmy: Purdue Chapter • Established in 2004 • Four main pillars: 1) To provide primary and secondary medical attention to people with little or no access to medical care. 2) To provide a life changing experience for students. 3) To lay the groundwork for a vibrant, self-sustaining club at Purdue University by taking service trips every spring break with a base of volunteers working locally throughout the year on service projects. 4) To contribute to the network of doctors worldwide who share a common interest in global medicine.

  26. What we need you to do: • FUNDING: • Monetary donations from companies to cover the overhead costs of food and decorations • BANQUET: • Auction items/services from businesses

  27. Goals: 1) Raise awareness and support for Timmy 2) Raise at least $5,000 for Tierra Nueva! Doing some math, 19 tables x 8 people x $30 a ticket = $4560 Let’s Make it Happen!
