Background & rational DEWG meeting 2009 • Early case detection and high treatment success rates are essential for national and global TB control. • Cutting transmission through early cure of infectious cases is • a principal avenue to reduce TB incidence. • Enrolling patients in programmes using international standards of TB care & notify them will increase substantially global figures on case detection. • Recent analyses have pointed to the need to go beyond • high case detection, and focus also on early detection to effectively • cut transmission.

  2. Main purpose of the DEWG meeting 2009 "To share and discuss a range of new interventions and approaches in TB control with the NTP managers, PPM focal points in the NTP, and major Stop TB Partners and discuss ways to accelerate progress in TB control, in particular early and increased case detection."

Main objectives DEWG meeting 2009: • To report on the implementation of the DEWG plan of action 2008-2009 • To discuss ways to increase case detection among children • To present the new treatment guidelines • To present guidance on the use of laboratory technologies (laboratory algorithm) • To share the revised version of the ISTC • To share ACSM activities and their impact

Main objectives DEWG meeting 2009 • To present why and how workplaces can be engaged in TB care and control • To present the framework for improved and early case detection and discuss Country use • To provide guidance on the ethics of TB care • To discuss ways to improve monitoring and evaluation based on country experiences • To present strategies in addressing human resources for TB control
