Estar , Sentirse , Tener. Ser is used to describe a state that normally is a certain way. In English you commonly would say: I am a mother. Yo soy madre . You are a student. Tú eres un estudiante . He/she is from Michigan. El/ ella es de Michigan. We are Angelenos .

  6. Tener means “to be” very similar to Ser. They are a bit weird when translated from English to Spanish, but it works. Instead of using adjectives or adverbs as was the case with Estar and Sentirse you use nouns. • I am cold.--Literal translation: Yo soy frio. • Yotengofrío. • You are hot (heat). ---Literal translation: Tuerescalor. • Tútienescalor.
