Kenya, is a country in East Africa that lies on the equator • Tanzaniais to the south, Uganda to the west, South Sudan to the north-west, Ethiopia to the north and Somalia to the north-east.  • The country is named after Mount Kenya, the second highest mountain in Africa. • Its capital and largest city is Nairobi. A little bit about Kenya.

  3. The first Jews of Kenya. Jewish settlement in Kenya began in the early 1900s. In 1904, the Nairobi Hebrew Congregation was established. By 1913, 20 Jewish families lived in Nairobi and the first synagogue was built. After the Holocaust, many Jews immigrated to Kenya. By 1945, the Jewish community had grown to 150 families. The Jewish Community of Kenya is unique, as it consists of Jews from all over of the earth, From countries such as Russia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Czechoslovakia, Germany, the UK, the U.S., Canada, Israel, Yemen, Iraq, India, Morocco, South Africa—and native-born Kenyan Jews.

An interesting Fact • In a Kenyan village 100 miles north of Nairobi, a small group of farmers have adopted Judaism as their faith. • There are about 50 people who practice Judaism. • They make some allowances for Kikuyu tradition, like naming firstborn children after their paternal grandparents. • There are also a few Jewish families near Nakuru, the capital city of the Rift Valley.
