  1. Using the FRC ECE diagnostic to measure TAE and RSAE eigenfunctions R. Granetz, P. Phillips, J. Snipes, … Alcator C-Mod Ideas Forum, Dec 2006

  2. ECE measurements of TAE/RSAE eigenfunctions on DIII-D NOVA solves for linear eigenmodes and does not predict actual mode amplitude. Predicted eigenmode scaled using least-squares fit to ECE data. Van Zeeland, PRL 97 (2006) 135001.

  3. Some details • TAE frequency range in C-Mod is 600-800 kHz (H-mode) • RSAE frequency range is 150-450 kHz (Ip rampup) • Te/Te ~ 0.1% on DIII-D • This is within the capabilities of the FRC ECE diagnostic • Goals: • Detailed test of the Nova-K ideal MHD model • Discriminate among various possible m,n modes • Very useful for tracking qmin evolution (RSAEs) • Likewise for tracking q=1 evolution (tornado AEs) Probably can all be done in piggyback Alcator C-Mod Ideas Forum, Dec 2006
