  2. The Bargaining Units • Full-time Unit: Certified in 1988. Represents all full-time faculty and professional librarians (475 members). • Part-time Unit: Certified in 2001. Represents all part-time faculty and professional librarians (350 members) Each unit has its own Collective Agreement

  3. Collective Agreements • Part-time Collective Agreement –Runs from 2007 to August 30, 2010. • Full-time Collective Agreement – recently negotiated. It will expire on June 30, 2011 • The Agreements can be accessed on-line at www.wlufa.ca

  4. The Association • The umbrella organization that runs the Faculty Association • Joining the Association enables you to attend and vote at General Meetings and • Allows you to serve on the Executive Committee • Function of the Executive Committee is to implement the policies of the Association and to administer the Collective Agreements • Sign-up forms are available today

  5. Role of the Faculty Association • Negotiate new Collective Agreements • Act as steward for the Association’s finances (dues collected from all members of the Bargaining Units) • Work as grievance officers to resolve members’ concerns with application of CA • Run Tenure workshops and mentor members throughout the tenure and promotion process

  6. Role of the Faculty Association • Assist new members negotiate their initial offer of employment • Support other Faculty Associations across Canada when needed (strikes and lock-outs) • Monitor parking issues • Advise on accessibility and availability of daycare • Advise on equity issues

  7. The Association works with representatives of the University to: • Ensure health and Safety of university community • Monitor changes to University’s pension scheme • Negotiate Letters of Understanding on issues related to Collective Agreements • Monitor employment equity issues

  8. Members represent WLUFA on national and provincial organizations: • Ontario Confederation of Faculty Associations (OCUFA) • Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT) • CAUT Defense Fund
