This course is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills to develop physical fitness through participation in strength training using isotonic, isometric, plyometric, and other modes of exercise. Instruction will focus on muscular strength, muscular endurance, cardio vascular endurance, flexibility and core strength .

  7. GENERAL CLASS PROCEDURES, REQUIREMENTS, EXPECTATIONS

  8. All students will be dressed everyday!!!

  9. Students who do not have their PE clothes must obtain a loaner set of clothes from me in the boy’s PE office

  10. Students WHO REFUSE TO GET A LOANER SET OF CLOTHES will receive a LUNCH DETENTION

  11. Failure to report to detention will result in a phone call home and/or referral to the office.

  12. IF YOU ARE NOT FEELING WELL-FOR WHATEVER REASON-YOU STILL MUST DRESS FOR PE

  13. OCCASIONALLY, I WILL ALLOW YOU TO TAKE IT EASY AS LONG AS YOU COMMUNICATE TO ME THAT YOU ARE NOT FEELING WELL. I don’t have ESP - I have ESPN

  14. To be successful in this class: Come to class ready to participate to the best of your ability everyday.

  15. No Chewing Gum

  16. Horseplay will NEVER be tolerated in the weight room

  17. Remember You are graded pass/fail everyday on your participation.

  18. Your effort is either good(adequate)-for the whole period-or bad (inadequate) Adequate=Pass Inadequate=Fail

  19. Remember Half (50%) of your grade is based on: • Dressing • Participation • Attendance

  20. You should be dressed even if you are not feeling well or you are injured. You may take it easy if you are not able to participate but YOU MUST BE DRESSED! Also, bring a note from home

  21. You must dress in Venice High PE uniform (preferred) or white T-shirt, and navy blue shorts. Sweatshirts are allowed provided they are gray, navy, white or black.

  22. Medical excuses from one to three days must go through the Health Office. • Bring a note from home to the health office. The nurse will give you a yellow MX excuse. • For medical excuses more than 3 days, a doctors note is required. Bring the note to the Health office.

  23. Come to class and be seated promptly. Do not hang around.

  24. Experienced PE clothes are available for $1.00 See me or Mr. Chretin if you would like to purchase a set.

  25. No i-Pods, cell phones or other electronic devices are permitted and are subject to confiscation if brought to class.

  26. Do not fool around in the locker room. Get dressed quickly and report for roll.

  27. At the end of class, report to the locker room and wait at your respective gates; boys at the boy’s gate and girls at the girl’s gate.

  28. GRADING 50%: • PARTICIPATION • ATTENDANCE • DRESSING 50% TESTS

  29. 50% Participation/Attendance/Dressing Students are graded pass or fail in participation everyday. Either the student’s effort is adequate (pass) or inadequate (fail).

  38. State of Mind: As you begin to notice the positive physical changes in your body and develop a regular exercise routine, your ability to handle stress effectively will improve. Weight training allows you to sleep better, i.e., fall asleep quicker and sleep deeper. Clinical studies have shown regular exercise to be one of the three best tools for effective stress management

  39. Social InteractionAnalyze the role of social interaction in the successful participation and enjoyment of participating in weight training and fitness activities.Group DynamicsAssist others in achievement of their fitness goals.

  44. Standard 1: Demonstrate knowledge and competency in motor skills, movement patterns and strategies needed to perform a variety of physical activities.

  45. Physical Education is not only education of the physical but education through the physical “You can learn so much about yourself and the world through sport, physical activity and exercise and games.”

  46. Standard 2: Achieve a level of physical fitness for health and performance while demonstrating knowledge of fitness concepts, principles, and strategies.
