  4. The Challenges Peter Drucker: “Thirty years from now the big university campuses will be relics. Universities won’t survive. It’s as large a change as when we first got the printed book.” Because of costs and the impact of information technology, “higher education is in deep crisis.” (Forbes, March 10, 1997) Executive Committee of the Board

Our Motivation • Because we want to serve the Kingdom of Jesus Christ with distinction. • Because we commit our lives to a grand venture of learning that can and should change the world. • Because we know the world needs the light of learning shaped by the gospel.   6. SPU: At The Crossroads! We need to know who we are and what we aspire to become and how we will get where we want to go. • Our opportunities are enormous. • Our responsibilities are significant. • The choices are now. Executive Committee of the Board

  8. SPU: A Christian University for the 21st Century Our first premise: We are grounded on the gospel of Jesus Christ. We serve the church, the city, and the world! Graduates prepared to make a difference. Guided by three clusters of core values. A grace-filled community that informs our way. Ideas that really matter. Our focus is outward.   9. Our Christian Commitment • Guided and informed by our rich Wesleyan heritage and loyal to our Free Methodist partnership. • Clearly evangelical. • Genuinely ecumenical. Executive Committee of the Board

To be a university for the 21st Century means: • We need to understand and address the crisis of meaning in our culture. • We must engage the modern city. • We must be informed by a global consciousness. • We must be enabled by the discerning use of technology. FOUR PLANS FOR THE FUTURE • An educational plan that defines academic vision and priorities and campus life vision and priorities; • An enrollment plan that provides targets for size, mix, and profile; • A capital improvement plan that guides the creation of a new masterplan; • An endowment plan with targets for the next five and ten years.   12. FIVE STRATEGIES FOR ACTION • A new positioning plan and marketing plan; • A major fundraising campaign; • New recruitment and retention strategies; • A campus masterplan; • A plan for outcomes assessment. Executive Committee of the Board
