  2. THE CITY IS SO BIG The city is so big Kota itu sangat besar Its bridges quake with fear Jembatan-jembatannya retak dengan sangat mengerikan I know, i have seen at night Saya tahu, saya sudah melihatnya pada malam hari By : Richard Garcia The lights sliding from house to house Lampu-lampu itu tersusun dari rumah ke rumah And trains pass with windows shining Dan kereta-kereta lewat dengan jendela-jendela yang berkilau Like a smile full of teeth Seperti senyum yang lebar I have seen machines eating houses Saya melihat mesin-mesin menelan rumah-rumah And stairways walk all by themselves Dan melihat tangga-tangga berjalan sendiri And elevator doors opening and closing Dan elevator terbuka dan tertutup And people disappear Dan orang-orang menghilang

  3. CONNECT TO YOUR LIFE! 1. Have you ever ridden an escalator, or moving stairway? Have you ridden in elevators? How did you feel on these rides? Answer: -Yes Ihave. I felt good, but sometimes Iwas worried about being stuck.

  4. KEY TO THE POEM Imagery  words & phrases that appeal to the five senses (sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch) “I have seen machines eating houses.”

  5. THINK IT THROUGH What image does line 2 give the reader? - It shows us that the bridge is quake and make us feel scared 2. What mood or feeling do lines 2 and 7-10 create? What images help create this feeling? -A scary mood; bridges quake with fear, machines eating houses, stairways walking by themselves, doors opening & closing, people disappearing. 3. How is the feeling about cities in this poem different from the feeling in the poem “City” on page 57? - The feeling in the “City” is happier.
