  2. Objectives • Recognize management practices that are not conducive to improving quality • Develop and discuss you own ideas about the role of management in QI • Explain some of the lessons learned through the Red Bead Experiment • Become familiar with Deming’s 14 Points

Deming’s 14 Points (1 of 3) • Create constancy of purpose for improvement of produce and service • Adopt the new philosophy • Cease dependence on mass inspection • End the practice of awarding business on the basis of price tag alone • Improve constantly and forever the the system of production and service

  4. Deming’s 14 Points (2 of 3) • Institute training • Institute leadership • Drive out fear • Break down barriers between staff areas • Eliminate slogans, exhortations, and targets for the workforce

  5. Deming’s 14 Points (3 of 3) • Eliminate numerical quotas • Remove barriers to pride of workmanship • Institute a vigorous program of education and retraining • Take action to accomplish the transformation
