  1. A TRIBUTE TO RICHARD C NICKELS Church of God historian and research specialist Presented at CESA, Brisbane, 1 July 2006

  2. We are sad to announce that Richard Nickels passed away Sunday night, less than three months after discovering that adrenal cancer had spread throughout his body. After collapsing on Monday, May 29, he had been hospitalized with oxygen therapy until Friday, when he began slipping in and out of a semi-comatose state. During his last week he was lucid and was able to converse with his family and friends.  He died peacefully with his wife Shirley at his side about 7 PM, Sunday, June 4, 2006.

  3. Biography Richard was born on June 10, 1947 in Portland, Oregon and was a graduate of Linfield College (B.A., 1969, Summa Cum Laude). He became a World Tomorrow broadcast listener in 1961, was baptized in 1969, and was employed by the Worldwide Church of God from 1971-1973 in festival site construction and Church Administration. At the time of his passing, Richard worked for a major coal mining company as an accountant and computer consultant. He wrote numerous articles and books after starting Giving & Sharing in 1978. These included History of the Seventh Day Church of God, Six Papers on the History of the Church of God, Biblical Holy Days, Biblical Law, Biblical Health and Healing, Biblical Marriage and Family and many more. He served as President of the Bible Sabbath Association from 1996-1999 and 2004-2006.

  11. Bible Sabbath Association • The Bible Sabbath Association is a non-denominational organization, open to all believers in the Seventh-day Sabbath. Its main purposes are: • to promote fellowship and cooperation between Sabbath-keepers of various groups; • to promote Sabbath observance on a non-denominational basis; • to restore respect and honor for the Ten Commandments as a whole, with special emphasis on the Fourth, which has been forgotten by most of the world; • to encourage the repeal of laws which enforce the keeping of Sunday (or any day) by any unit of man's government; and • to defeat the adoption of any calendar which would disrupt the seven-day weekly cycle. • Its beginnings can be traced to the outcome of correspondence in late 1943 between a few Sabbath-keepers of various beliefs and affiliations who felt the need for a closer cooperation between various Sabbath-keepers. Although the home office is located in Fairview, Oklahoma, the Bible Sabbath Association now has a branch with offices in Australia as well as members located in several countries around the world.
