Photography is one of the things that started as a hobby but have grown into a passion for him over the years. He has proved his mettle as a creative photographer by winning several renowned photography contests, such as the Art of Mining, 20 Years of Engagement, and many others. Ilias Atwani’s passion for photography has been rewarding for him not just in the sense that it allows him to express himself creatively, but also by taking him places that he wouldn’t otherwise get to explore so closely. For example, as a reward for winning a photography contest, called The Art of Mining, he got the opportunity to visit two Inuit villages with Noah, a local resident. During the trip, he was accompanied by the second-place winner of the contest. Talking about the fondest memory from his visit to the Inuit villages, Ilias Atwani says that it was when he went on a snowmobile expedition along with Noah. After the expedition, Noah also invited Ilias to his place to see how they lead their lives. During his time in Noah’s village, he saw his wife and two young girls busy making mittens. When he inquired about them, he was told that the mother of one of the girls worked for his company, and that Noah’s family looked after the girl in her mother’s absence. This left Ilias deeply impressed with the kind of mutual aid and community synergy that existed at the heart of Inuit culture. As a token of respect for the guest, Noah even gave him a beautiful traditional anorak, which is a warm, hooded jacket.
