He received his bachelor’s degree in mineral and mining engineering from the Laval University where he contributed to disaster and humanitarian relief for three years while also being a part of MENING.ES – the student section of the OIQ. Other than his professionalism, Ilias is known for his expertise at photography. Ilias Atwani’s love and passion for photography has come handy on several occasions in terms of giving him some amazing opportunities of discovering new places and experiences including the chance of visiting two Inuit villages. On this expedition, Ilias was accompanied by Noah, a local resident and the runner-up of the photography competition called The Art of Mining that he had won. Ilias was lucky enough to have gotten to spend some time with Noah’s wife and two young girls. On questioning, he learnt that Noah’s family watched over one of the girls while her mother was at work. 2. instant was enough to make Ilias realize how much mutual aid and community synergy lay there at the heart of the Inuit culture. Noah and his family were as excited as Ilias on his journey of exploring their culture. To this date, Ilias Atwani’s face lights up every time he is asked to share his experience and he talks with great fondness how he would have loved to stay there for a longer period of time and discover more. It is rather surprising that Ilias’ experience while he was a part of a recruitment campaign in the Inuit village of Kangiqsujuaq (Wakeham Bay) was completely different. Even though Ilias is extremely occupied on most of his days, he tries to spare as much time as he can to spend with his family. He also enjoys exploring new places and cultures.
