  1. Top Holiday Gifts for Seniors

  2. When shopping for the senior citizens on your holiday list, your immediate thought may be that by the time a person reaches that age, they probably have everything. What could they possibly need or want?! But, if you stop to think, there are many gifts that would brighten the holiday season for your parent, grandparent, mentor or friend.

  3. What is their passion? Does your mom adore chocolate or fine wines? Do you still find your grandfather puttering on his balcony garden? Maybe the senior on your list has a lifelong love of classical music or opera. Or perhaps, you are shopping for an avid reader. There are plenty of gift options that will delight the senior on your list: • Custom gift baskets geared toward their interests • Plants and gardening equipment • Gift cards to a concert hall, favorite restaurant, pet store or bookstore • A night out to play or concert- provide the tickets and the company- keep this gift in mind especially for caregivers. Many seniors are caregivers to an ailing spouse or sibling. • A weekend getaway- perhaps a scenic ride to the lake, a winery or antiquing

  4. Technology gifts Many seniors do keep up on technological advances but are not as likely to purchase the latest IPhone. Here are a few suggestions: • An updated cell phone- there are also cell phones designed for seniors with larger keyboards and dial pads for those visually impaired or have arthritic issues • An E-Reader, IPad or another tablet • Headphones for television viewing or traveling- especially a wonderful gift for someone with impaired hearing • A digital radio with remote control • A flat screen television

  5. Sentimental gifts Okay, it may be true, many seniors are very sentimental, (especially women), but enough of your kid’s school pictures! Try for something a bit more original or encompassing than another framed portrait: • A digital photo frame loaded with all the kids and grandkids or maybe treasured travel photos as well • A scrapbook of events and picture of their life • A throw or pillow with memorable photos- you can get creative at places like Zazzle or Cafépress

  6. Practical Gifts If there are things the seniors in your life need, don’t be afraid to consider those as an option as well. A few suggestions might be: • Clothing- Coats, sweaters or pajamas • Bath towels-white high-quality towels are always a great gift • Therapeutic products- such as footbaths or massagers • Mobility products-canes or reaching devices • A gift card to a grocery delivery service- especially useful in the winter • Of course, you can also ask the senior on your list for a suggestion, but don’t pay attention to the, “I don’t need anything Dear,” reply. They will appreciate your thoughtfulness. Happy shopping!
