  1. XBRL Pacific Rim Technology WorkShop & Summit Intern program Hiroaki Sakakibara Fujitsu Limited

  2. ProjectOverview XBRL Formula With the release of the XBRL formula specification on June 22nd this project will demonstrate the use of XBRL formula to identify errors in SEC filings. This project will require the intern to create XBRL formula based on assertions for SEC filers to check the validity of their instances. The intern is expected to identify aerations and create XBRL formula that will be made available on the XBRL US website for filers to run and check the validity of their filings with the US GAAP taxonomy. The deliverables from the project will be as follows: ·Listing of assertions in an XBRL formula format ·Test cases of existing filings showing errors in filings ·Identification of problems and Issues with the formula specification

  3. Agenda • What’s XBRL Formula? • What we can do with formula ? Assertion Formula • What we can’t do with formula ? • Conclusion

  4. What’s XBRL Formula? • Assertion • Existence check for source item • Value check based on source items • Consistency check computed item to source item • Formula • Results in an fact item • For an output instance document • For consistency checking of corresponding input

  5. Formula Linkbase (Assertion) Formula Linkbase* Assertionsexistence value consistency Evaluate Taxonomy and Instance according to defined assertion Type of assertions FormulaProcessor True Input Taxonomy False Input instance *Formula Linkbaseis part of DTS

  6. Type of Assertions

  7. What can be define? Fact Value to be asserted Formula Linkbase (Assertion/ Formula)* Customized Parameters Variable Variable Variable Custom Function Filter options such as “Context” Filter Parameter Filter Filter FormulaProcessor True Input Taxonomy False *Formula Linkbaseis part of DTS

  8. What you can do with “Assertion”? Formula Linkbase This linkbase can be used individually Assertionsexistence value , consistency FormulaProcessor True Input Taxonomy False • Customized criteria • Value check (accounting point of view) • Consistency check (summation item, BS vs SS, etc.) • Exposable Validator • Undependable on tools, the same criteria can be applied

  9. Formula Linkbase (Formula) Formula Linkbase* FormulaComputed items Mapping line items in designated taxonomy FormulaProcessor Input Taxonomy Output Taxonomy Input instance Output instance *Formula Linkbaseis part of DTS

  10. What you can do with “Formula”? Formula Linkbase Analytical model can be applied FormulaComputed items FormulaProcessor Output Taxonomy Input Taxonomy Input instance Output instance • Interoperable in different types of GAAPs • Mapping between GAAPs, might be able to solve accounting gaps • For Financial analysis • Similar metadata can be used for modeling financial indicator

  11. What we can’t do with Formula? • Assertion • Custom Defined Parameterfor Complicated Assertion ( ex. SEC Validator, etc ) • Time consuming for Mapping Taxonomies • Formula • Reverse conversion ( One way ) • Common • Formula engine ( software, tools ) required • Difficult to use

  12. Thank you very much indeed! Special thanks Mr Herm Fischer
