Nodes Roadmap Linked via cPanel

The Link Server Nodes interface in WHM enables the linking of two servers, a parent node and a child node. It is important to know about linked nodes as well as server profiles and how they work together.

  3. Introduction • The information provided here describes linked nodes, server profiles, as well as the way in which all of this works together. Additionally, information is provided on the future plans regarding the linked nodes project. • To digress, web servers are used by web hosting companies for delivering the service of web hosting which keeps websites accessible and up and running seamlessly. The “Best Linux Shared Hosting”, the “Best Windows Dedicated Hosting” the “Top Cloud Hosting” are some of the terms that are used frequently to refer to the most efficient web hosting services.

  4. Linked Nodes • The Link Server Nodes interface in WHM was introduced in the version 86 of cPanel & WHM. WHM >> Home >> Server Configuration >> Link Server Nodes • Two servers can be linked together through this interface. These are a parent node and a child node. Certain functionality can be offloaded by the parent node to the child node.

  5. Server Profiles • The Server Profile interface in WHM was introduced in the version 76 of cPanel & WHM. WHM >> Home >> Server Configuration >> Server Profile • Servers are optimized by server profiles for the performance of specific functions or tasks. A set of roles are enabled or disabled by each profile. Certain services with regard to the task of the server are allowed or disallowed by each of these roles. • It is performance improvements that are provided by server profiles. These do not necessarily provide additional security. The same level of access on the child node is provided to distributed accounts as those that are provided on the parent node. This access enables the smooth functioning of linked nodes with existing systems. Research is being carried out on methods for transitioning to a reduced access security model in the future versions.

  6. Implementation • When the two aforementioned interfaces come together, these enable the optimization of each server for functionality that is separate and distinct. Resources on the parent node are rendered free by this combination. Additionally, this combination enables the optimization of each server’s hardware.

  7. Phases • Each of the several phases of this project is meant to deliver more functions, improvements and controls. Each of these phases is briefly discussed next. The status of all of these phases is complete, except for the 10th phase, which is in progress.

  8. 1-800-123 -8156 Whoa! That’s a big number, aren’t you proud?

  9. Phase 1- Introduce Server Profiles • The introduction of the Standard, Database, Mail, and DNS server profiles enable the optimization of a server for a specific task or function. A set of roles is enabled and disabled by each profile. Specific services that are related to the task of the server are allowed or disallowed by each role.

  10. Phase 2- Improve Email Deliverability • The way in which a server delivers, receives and processes email is improved. The Email Deliverability interface of WHM helps in the identification and resolution of problems that have to do with the server’s SPF, DKIM and PTR records. WHM >> Home >> Email >> Email Deliverability

  11. Phase 3- Manage API Tokens in cPanel • The introduction of cPanel API tokens helps users by letting them create, update, list and revoke API tokens. These API tokens can be issued by the users in the Manage API Tokens interface in cPanel. cPanel >> Home >> Security >> Manage API Token

  12. Phase 4- Standalone DNS Server Profile Licensing . • Standalone DNS server profile licensing enables support of DNS server profile licenses.

  13. Phase 5- Link a New Standard Parent Node to a New Mail Child Node • The new cPanel accounts that are on a Standard parent node can connect to a Mail child node. Additionally, the new cPanel accounts’ mail tasks to a different server are assigned.

  14. Phase 6- Transfer Existing Linked cPanel Accounts between Nodes • Transfers to and from a server with attached nodes, is supported. Enables the backup of accounts with data that is from all of your server nodes. When an account is transferred from one server to another, the node setting is preserved.

  15. Phase 7- Modify a cPanel Account to Offload Mail • The mail storage of a cPanel account can be offloaded to a linked node in the Modify an Account interface in WHM. WHM >> Home >> Account Functions >> Modify an Account

  16. Phase 8- Modify a cPanel Account to Host Mail Locally • A distributed cPanel account can be modified in order for it to use only the local server in the Modify an Account interface in WHM. WHM >> Home >> Account Functions >> Modify an Account

  17. Phase 9- Production Ready • Supports a Standard or Mail server profile with a linked child node server, in a production environment.

  18. Phase 10- Future Plans • It entails performance and optimization. The status of this phase is in progress.
