  1. If you are curious about the effects of suspending an account, then the information provided here will quench your curiosity. The actions that a system performs when you suspend an account have been described here. It needs to be specified here that bandwidth limiting is different from suspension. Suspension and bandwidth limiting are two separate functions. You need to use the Manage Account Suspension interface of WHM in order to suspend or unsuspend an account. WHM >> Home >> Account Functions >> Manage Account Suspension. Account Suspension’s Effects Let us touch upon the actions that are carried out by the system when an account is suspended. The term “user” represents the username of the account. •The system adds the SUSPENDED=1 and SUSPENDTIME=epochdate flags to the /var/cpanel/users/cpuser file of the account. In it, epochdate represents that Unix time at which the account was suspended. •If the Prevent resellers from unsuspending checkbox is selected when the account is being suspended, the system touches the /var/cpanel/suspended/user.lock file. •The system stops all of the processes that that account owns. •A suspended.lists directory is created by the system in Mailman, and the system moves the files for each of the account’s mailing lists to this directory. •The system creates a /etc/webdav/shadow directory in the home directory of the user. •LOCKED string is added by the system to the /etc/shadow password files for all of the account’s email users.

  2. •The users of the account are not allowed by the system anymore to send email through the mail server. Additionally, the mail server forces all mail currently in the outbound message queue from that account’s users to fail. •Apache’s httpd.conf file is updated by the system with a Virtual Host include file for the user. The include file is created by the system at the below-mentioned location. /usr/local/apache/conf/includes/account_suspensions.conf A RedirectMatch rule is contained in this include file. It redirects website traffic to the default template for the accounts that have been suspended. •The passwd -l command is used by the system to lock the /etc/shadowpassword file of the account. This command prepends the passwords of the account with 2 exclamation marks (!!). •All of the MySQL users’ passwords are changed by the system. Since the interface that has been used here is of WHM, let us describe in brief about WHM, before we conclude the topic. WHM is the abbreviation of Web Host Manager. It is a control dashboard that enables a user to manage multiple cPanel-based websites. These websites are made accessible through the service of web hosting.
