What is meant by User Acceptance Testing

UAT can also be defined as the user methodology where the developed software is tested by the business user to validate if the software is working according to the specifications defined. This type of testing is also known as beta testing, application testing or more commonly end-user testing.<br>

  1. What is meant by User Acceptance Testing End-users will test the software product in UAT and ascertain whether the product can meet the user and business specific requirements. The software product is strategically evaluated against the business requirements. User requirements are reflected accurately through high-quality, well-designed tests. Time and cost can be saved to a great extent if UAT is implemented tactically. The reason being once the product is released it will not amount to any further defects or errors. In this article, you will get a detailed overview of user acceptance testing. What is UAT Testing? It is a testing method that is performed to verify whether the software product or application is built as per the user and business specific requirements. User feedback plays a key role in this testing method as the feedback helps the team to make strategic decisions in further developing the overall quality of the product. Purpose of UAT: The end-to-end business flow is validated using this testing method. It is carried out in a real-time production environment to evaluate the product’s worth from a user’s viewpoint and thus understand its worth in a real-time scenario. The strategic need to perform UAT: The software application is developed by developers based on the specific functional and technical requirements that have been provided to them. This means the software that is being built is more from a developer’s understanding. But, another key factor is that ultimately this particular software application that is being built is for end-users/customers. For this specific reason, UAT is conducted by end-users who will be testing the product and its features and then providing their valuable feedback. Following are the six simple steps required to perform UAT: Initiate with a well-defined plan Test case design 02 01 Test case execution Selecting the right testers 04 03 Fixing the bugs Sign-off process 06 05 1. Initiate with a well-defined plan: Outlining the UAT strategy and taking strategic action steps are planned out in this step. Each intended feature is tested and feature requirements are noted down. Ascertaining the minimum standards that should be met is also taken into consideration. 2. Test case design: The functional scenarios of the software in a real-world scenario are covered by designing test cases. A sequence of steps and the expected results are described by each test in order to cover an ideal usage scenario for the product. Simple language is used for the designing process so that the testers can easily utilize the testing process. 3. Selecting the right testers: In UAT, the role of testers will be donned by end-users. Testers are selected based on certain criteria such as their understanding and knowledge about the business, which has built the product and also their ability to detect and report issues/defects while testing. 4. Test case execution: The designated test cases are executed by the testing team. In certain scenarios, certain relevant random tests are also executed. The testing document is where the bugs are being logged with relevant comments. 5. Fixing the bugs: The testers will pass on the bug report to the development team, who will make the necessary adjustments and thus make a bug-free product. Once the specific bugs and errors have been fixed, the testing process is carried out again in order to make sure that the issue has been properly addressed and resolved. 6. Sign-off process: When all the bugs that have been identified by the testers are properly fixed, then the team is in a position to accept the software product or application. This in turn proves that the software product or application meets business and user requirements and is ready for release.
