The HECT Program • Foodservice and Hospitality Career Pathway • Grade 9-Culinary Arts Wheel • Grade 10-Intro and Advanced Culinary Arts • Grade 11- Either Restaurant Level I or Baking & Pastry Arts • Grade 12- Either Restaurant Level II or Decorating Arts • Catering Production and Bakery Production are also elective choices

  4. FHA-HERO at San Juan High School • The high school is located in Citrus Heights, a suburb of Sacramento • The school population has 700 students in grades 9-12 • Two 100 percent affiliated chapters with a total of approximately 150 students and three instructors

  5. Why 100% Affiliation? • Every student can benefit • More opportunity for Leadership • Less confusion with CRE registration’s • More presence on campus and the community

  7. Chapter Meetings • Formal and committee meetings are held during class • One set of official officers for each chapter with representation in each section • Includes chapter business, a State Project Thrust presentation, and either a team building, or social/recreational activity

  8. Competitive Recognition Events • Each grade level of instruction has lessons and class projects associated with the Competitive Recognition Events

  9. Grade 10 • Menu Planning & Table Display • Salad Preparation • Nutrition Education

  10. Grade 11 • Restaurant • Culinary Arts-Appetizers • Commercial Food Preparation • Baking & Pastry Arts • Culinary Arts-Breads • Culinary Arts-Patisserie

  11. Grade 12 • Restaurant • Culinary Arts-Appetizers • Commercial Food Preparation • Job Application and Interview • Decorative Arts • Culinary Arts-Wedding Cakes • Culinary Arts-Advanced Cakes • Culinary Arts-Tortes • Culinary Arts-Arts Display

  12. State Project Thrusts • Lead by Senior members • Also used as a Senior Project Teen Driving Safety Health in a Heartbeat

  13. Community Service • Projects are related to the FHA-HERO State Project Thrusts or classroom curriculum

  14. Career Exploration • Field trips to visit industry partners • Industry guest speakers

  15. Criteria for Chapter Members to Participate in the State Leadership Meeting • Qualify to compete in a CRE at the State Level OR • Serve as a Region or State Officer OR • Complete the Qualifications for a Golden State Degree • Maintain a 2.5 GPA • Attend the Fall Leadership Meeting • Participate in 20 hours of catering and fundraising activities AND • Actively participate in State Leadership Meeting Fundraising

Criteria Earn a Graduation Stole • Complete a minimum of four sequenced Culinary Arts Pathway courses • Earn a Golden State Degree • Participate in a minimum of 20 hours per year of catering and fundraising activities • Compete in a Competitive Recognition Event (CRE) OR • Serve as a Region or State Officer
