  1. TPC Status TB 07.11.06 Peter Glässel, Heidelberg

  2. Pre-Commissioning • Phase 1 results see Oct Forum • Phase 2 (till Nov 19): • ‘endurance test’ for sectors, 2 days, 2 at a time • Finalized cabling • Better known gas composition • Full DCS functionality: monitoring and storing of parameters (i.e. FEE temperatures) • ISEG HV: monitoring currents • Prepare sectors for transport • 2/3 done Sector covers (cooled) TB 07.11.06 Peter Glässel, Heidelberg

  3. Main results in phase 2 • FEE life: no single failure • Gain curves, gain margin A-side • HV trips: • Only seen with ISEG: fast hardware trip • Mainly seen for OROCs • regardless of trip current settings • No clear correlation with HV, time (conditioning?) • Modify time constant: with 15 M series resistor only one trip since 5 days on C-side • Gain spikes (high gain on a pad row): go away with time TB 07.11.06 Peter Glässel, Heidelberg

  4. Summary – IROC S/N Measurements not available TB 07.11.06 Peter Glässel, Heidelberg

  7. Summary – OROC S/N Measurements not available TB 07.11.06 Peter Glässel, Heidelberg

  8. SECTOR A00 gain curves A00 - Gain TB 07.11.06 Peter Glässel, Heidelberg

  9. OROC A00 exchange • Wire broken • 150 V below max HV tested • Decision to exchange OROC • Preparations in parallel to phase 2 commissioning C-side: remove electronics (1 sector only), cabling, FEE frames • Yellow platform in non-standard asymmetric fashion (keep I-bars on A-side) • Re-test spare OROC before exchange • Time schedule till end Nov: 10 days delay TB 07.11.06 Peter Glässel, Heidelberg

  10. TPC transport to UX2 • Technical questions for transport resolved • Transport document http://www.physi.uni-heidelberg.de/~glassel/TPC/TPC-transport/TPC-transport.pdf • Except maybe weather: T < 10 deg? • Preparations start late Nov, actual transport 4.12.? • Last minute technical problem for installation: • Connection rails are incompatible with BSF • need to be modified, redesign done, calculations pending • Critical part taking large forces (5.5 t vertical) • Load test needed • Have to be in place before transport: time schedule risk TB 07.11.06 Peter Glässel, Heidelberg

  11. Spares, reference • Complete A-side phase 2 summary under https://webh06.cern.ch/alice-tpc-commissioning/documents/TPC_2nd_phase_summaryAside.ppt TB 07.11.06 Peter Glässel, Heidelberg

  12. OROC A00 pulser readout after wire broke A00 / OROC with broken wire(s) Signal injected into cathode wires 4 FECs had several channels damaged TB 07.11.06 Peter Glässel, Heidelberg
