  1. Working from Home: Is This the End of 9 – 5? Working from home is popular when you work in investment management as well as other jobs within the Fintech industry. Even portfolio manager jobs are available on a work from home basis. But, have you thought about what working from home really means? Many say that they actually work longer hours when they work from home. Could this be true? Being able to differentiate between work and personal life is more difficult when you work from home. The truth is that many of us end up working longer hours when we work from. That is true when it comes to investment management and portfolio manager jobs. You may just think to yourself, “am I going to do this!” Before you know it, it is 3 pm on Sunday afternoon and you have not even started Sunday dinner yet. When you work from home, getting carried away and losing track of time is very easy, especially with pressurised jobs and timescales. As a result, you may find yourself working longer hours than before when you worked in an office. When working from home, it is important to keep track of time. What you need to do is to set yourself your own working hours. Preferably, you should try to stick to regular working hours. But that has always been tricky when you work in investment management or carry out portfolio manager jobs that require your immediate attention. On occasions, you may have to stay and wait for the phone to ring from another part of the world, or for an important call that helps drive your company forward.

  2. One thing that sets working from home apart from working in the office is the way we use the phone. Perhaps we have stopped using the phone altogether. Other ways of staying in touch such as Zoom or email have taken over the way we communicate with others. From the comfort of your own home, you can speak to someone else management or colleagues also doing portfolio manager jobs from home. In many ways, it feels like the entire office has moved into your home. If you can, you should try to create a home office. Perhaps that is more important when investment management. You may have documents that you don't want other members of the family to get their hands on. Try to see if you can create a small home office at home. It will make doing your job from home easier. Knowing where everything is important as far as investment and portfolio manager jobs are concerned. You don't want to lose track of all of that essential financial information. Most homes do allow for a home office to be created in one way or another. Do you feel like going back to your office? Many are beginning to go back to the office. After you have been working from home for a while, your home may stop feeling like it is your own. Instead, it just feels like an office. Maybe this is why many in investment management are beginning to transfer their portfolio manager jobs back to London. Working at home is fine for a while. But, at the end of the day, it can start losing its charm. Maybe you have realised that working from 9 to 5, or longer is not something that you can do when you are at home. It could be that it is time to reclaim your home and go back to the office instead.
