  1. Name: Group Topic: Period: Subtopic: Work Cited: Natalie Vega Choreographer Natalie Vega was born and raised in Miami, Florida. When she was younger she studied ballet, flamenco, hip hop and jazz and pursued cheerleading and sports like volleyball and softball. During her high school years, she joined the Gablettes dance team and took ballet at the Alita Cabrera Academy. Natalie Vega attended Florida International University where she received a Bachelor's in Arts of Dance with a minor in Education. She explored her studies by taking classes such as Global Perspectives of Dance, African Dance, Tap, Dance Kinesiology, Stage Design, Dance Choreography and much more. She specialized her studies in choreography and care and prevention of injuries which she now incorporates when she teaches. She began teaching dance at John I. Smith Elementary in the after school program and was offered the opportunity to start the Doral Academy Preparatory Dance Program in February 2005. She also built the Doral Academy Performing Arts and Entertainment dance program and the Diamonds Dance team. Ms. Vega loves to choreograph for shows and competitions and teaches techniques: lyrical, contemporary, hip hop and jazz. She finds it important to also incorporate nutrition and care and prevention and will continue to teach and coach for a lifetime.

Name:Group Topic: 21 Century Lyrical Movement Period:Subtopic: Lyrical Dance Choreographers Doral Academy Dance Dream Team Ms. Natalie Vega started the Doral Academy Preparatory Dance Program in February 2005, along with the Doral Academy Performing Arts and Entertainment dance program and the Diamonds Dance team. Ms. Vega loves to choreograph for shows and competitions and teaches techniques lyrical, contemporary, hip hop and jazz. Mrs. Sheryl Canu started teaching dance at Doral Academy in 2006. Mrs. Canu was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska and moved to Florida after dancing for Costa. After graduating from Doral Academy in 2008, Ms. Merylin Sanchez worked in the Doral Academy office and since graduating Nova Southeastern University is the newest member of the Doral Academy Dance Dream Team. Although they all specialize in different techniques: Ms Vega in choreography, Mrs. Canu in Tap and Ms. Sanchez in salsa, they all share their passion for lyrical dance. They have choreographed memorable lyrical pieces such as Ain't No Sunshine, Stay, Sky Fall, and Maybe I'm Just Tired. They specialize in conveying the true essence and emotion of the song lyrics while showcasing their dancer's techniques. They use a contrast of high and low levels, manipulating their choreography and the use of the stage. Their moves can be rigid yet fluid; all in the art of the movements of song lyrics.
