  3. What International Travel Support IS NOT • It is NOT an insurance policy • This plan does not cover expenses resulting from obtaining health or dental services abroad

  4. International Travel Support Services for TAMU • International SOS • University business related travel and study abroad • No cost to traveling employee or student

  5. Who is covered by International SOS? TAMU locations in College Station, Galveston or Italy • TAMU employees (faculty and staff) • Students participating in Study Abroad (out bound) • Graduate students collecting data for thesis and dissertation work

TAMU Qatar Employees • TAMU Qatar employees emergency services provided by AIG-World Source Services • Services • Medical Assistance • Referral to doctors who speak language • Advance payment of medical expense or guarantee of medical expense • Medical evacuation • Medical case monitoring • Medical records and medication shipment

TAMU Qatar Employees cont. • Foreign Travel Accident and Sickness/Medical Evacuation • Covers North American Employees • $20k AD&D with $200k aggregate • $10k Accident/Sickness Medical Expense $250 deduct • $100k Emergency Medical Evacuation • $100k Emergency Family Travel • $25k Repatriation of Remains

However, for emergency services, AIG-World Source Services should be the resource used for Qatar-based employees.

  10. How is “University Business Related Travel” Defined? • Paid for by TAMU or through a TAMU Account • Employee not required to take vacation leave for absence from work during travel • Travel supported by TAMU grants or contracts • TAMU approved spouse travel

  11. Mixed Travel - Business and Leisure • Trip necessitated by university business • Incidental leisure or personal side trips occurring within 48 hours at either the initiation, or end of the business travel will likely qualify as business travel

University Travel Related Reminders • University Rule: 25.02.01.M1: Foreign Travel • All foreign travel (except for travel to Canada and Mexico) MUST be approved in advance in writing • Travel to a location subject to a U.S. Department of State Travel Advisory warning or restriction of travel by U.S. citizens MUST be approved in advance by the President

  13. University Travel Related Reminders cont. • University Rule 25.02.01.M1: Foreign Travel • Undergraduate students are not allowed to travel to a country with a U.S. Department of State Travel Warning in place restricting travel by U.S. citizens to the destination country

University Travel Related Reminders cont. • University SAP 13.04.99.M1.01: Student Travel Procedures (section 3.1.1.1) • Students traveling internationally should notify the Study Abroad Programs in the International Programs Office • For students participating in Study Abroad, the period of the Study Abroad experience is considered university business and qualifies for International SOS benefits Study Abroad Programs Office:845-0544

  15. Travel Considerations • Keep key contact numbers available to stateside family members or close friends • Consider extending cell phone service to send and receive international calls during the period of travel
