Competences of DWD as the German NMS • Observations, climate monitoring in the framework of WMO programmes • Data archive, data management, data exchange, data policy (e.g. Res. 40) • WMO Information System – user friendly data and product dissimination system • Weather forecast center – Access to a large user community • Weather services as a model for development of climate services • Hydrometeorology, Agriculture, Health, Infrastructure (Traffic, energy systems, housing, communication, …) • Numerical weather prediction as the basis for cooperation with the climate simulation community • …

Role of DWD as NMS in a Global Framework of Climate Services • Providing the comprehensive data and product management infrastructure in the WMO framework • Interface to globally available climate services via WIS • Establishment of RCCs in Region VI • Competence for user oriented services • coordination the development of climate services at many different institutions • Central role of WMO in GFCS will strengthen our national position
