1. Mount Carmel College Mount Carmel College for women was established in 1944 by the Carmelite sisters of St Teresa to fill the lacunae in women’s education. The college was first located at Trichur and was affiliated to Madras University. However, it was transferred to Bangalore in 1948, and began operations on the 7th of July, 1948 with just 50 students on its rolls. While today Mount Carmel Bangalore was granted autonomous status in September 2005 & was re-accredited with an A + status by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 2006. The institution has been identified as a College with Potential for Excellence (CPE) by UGC in 2006. MCC Bangalore has been ranked among the top twenty colleges in India by India Today & The Week magazines.
