  2. Important Information • Compulsory courses failed in SEMESTER 1 must be included on the Course Selection Form. Changes will be made once courses have been successfully completed. • There will be NO elective changes for students in Grades 9 and 10. Therefore you need to be careful when choosing your electives • You need to choose two electives • You must have two alternates courses • If you are in Applied Math and next year you want to take Academic Math, you need to go to summer school and take a two week transfer course: MPM 1H • On your course selection you still need to put “Applied” • Only when you have completed the transfer course will your math be changed to “Academic”

  3. SUMMER SCHOOL • Information will be available the beginning of May • A Grade 9 student can take acceleration courses at summer school • The ONLY course that a Grade 9 student is allowed to take at summer school is: Civics/Career Studies

  4. ON-LINE COURSE SELECTIONS Go to the school website: http://jvh.ycdsb.ca. Click on ‘Career Cruising’ on the left side of the screen in order to make your course selections. Enter your username and password: Your username is:‘YC-’ plus your student number Your password is the same password you used last year Please see Mrs. Ladewig in the Guidance Office if you have forgotten your password.

  5. ON-LINE COURSESELECTIONS CONT… Once you have logged in click on ‘Choose My Courses’ on the left hand side of the screen

  6. ON-LINE COURSESELECTIONS CONT… Here you will see the courses you are currently enrolled in, and the courses you need to input for next year. You are required to select 7 compulsory courses, 2 electives, and 2 alternates.

  7. ON-LINE COURSESELECTIONS CONT… If you plan to take Careers Studies and Civics in Summer School, you must take the following steps: 1. Click on ‘The only courses that…’ at the bottom of the screen

  8. ON-LINE COURSESELECTIONS CONT… 2. Go to ‘Select’ and choose ‘Canadian & World Studies’ from the drop down menu 3. Click on ‘Civics & Citizenship’ and then click on ‘Add Courses’. That course will be added to your course selections.

  9. ON-LINE COURSESELECTIONS CONT… 4. Click on ‘The only courses that…’ again at the bottom of the screen. (Be sure that you do not select the box that already shows CHV2O1.) 5. Select ‘Guidance and Career Education’ from the drop down menu, and then click on ‘Add Courses’. This course will be added to your course selections. You will now see that you have an extra elective to fill in your course selections for next year.

  10. ON-LINE COURSESELECTIONS CONT… Now select the levels for your compulsory courses, i.e. Religion, English, Math, Science, and History. Remember to choose the levels carefully. 2D1 = Academic level 2P1 = Applied level 2L1 = Locally Developed level 2O1 = Open level 2OS/2DS = ESL Speak with your teachers if you are unsure which level you should take next year.

ON-LINE COURSESELECTIONS CONT… To choose your electives and alternates: • Click on ‘Elective’ or ‘Alternate’ and select the department from the drop down menu. • Choose the appropriate course and then click on ‘Add Courses’. • Remember that you must choose at least 2 electives and 2 alternates.

Ed. • PPL2OM – Male Phys. Ed. • TGJ2O1 – Construction Technology • TDJ2O1 – Design Technology • TFJ2O1 – Hospitality & Tourism • TMJ2O1 – Manufacturing Technology

ON-LINE COURSESELECTIONS CONT… Once you have completed inputting all of your courses and your parents have been involved in the process: • Press the submit button • Print the course selection sheet • Both you and your parent/guardian must sign the course selection sheet • Attach a cheque in the amount of $100.00 payable to Jean Vanier Catholic High School • Hand the course selection sheet to your homeroom teacher along with the activity fee NOTE: 1. ALL students should complete a Course Selection sheet, even if you are not planning on returning to JVCHS. 2. The JVCHS Student Course Guide can be viewed by clicking on the blue textbook icon on the top right corner of the screen.

  14. IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER • COURSE SELECTIONS SHEETS & ACTIVITY FEES DUE BYWEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 19TH, 2014 • AFTER FEBRUARY 27TH STUDENTS WILL BE PUT ON A WAIT LIST FOR SEPTEMBER BE ON TIME!
