  1. Redundancy # 10th Meeting

  2. # 10th MeetingRedundancy Topic : Redundancy, when it is necessary Objectives : 1. Being able to identify the necessary redundancy 2. Being able to get natural redundancy in target language

  3. Redundancy Simply, redundancy may be defined as a repetition with same or different words, phrases, or clauses. However, the exact words more often are not used. The words which are used refer to the same THING or EVENT, or to the same proposition or episode. Redundancy patterns and functions will not match between languages. The redundancy of the source text must not be translated literally, but on the other hand, the redundancy patterns of the receptor language must be fully developed in the translation in order to keep the information load from being too “heavy” (Larson, 1984: 440) The important thing that only the natural patterns of redundancy should be used.

  4. Practice Maria dan Fatimah takut bukan main. Kedua anak itu tak mengerti apa yang terjadi karena peristiwa itu tak pernah terjadi sebelumnya. Yng jelas, mereka harus tinggal dan bersembunyi di rumah bersama keluarga masing-masing. Sungguh mengerikan. Orang-orang berlarian ke sana kemari menyelamatkan diri. Jerit dan tangis terdengar menyayat hati. Tiba-tiba pintu rumah Fatimah diketuk orang. Ayah fatimah membuka pintu. Ternyata keluarga Maria. Demi keselamatan, mereka pamit hendak pergi mengungsi ke luar kota bersama saudaranya yang lain.

  5. Continued “Kemana kalian akan pergi?” tanya Fatimah sedih. Maria menggeleng lesu. Sebenarnya ia juga tak mau pergi dari kota itu. Tapi bagaimana lagi?
