  2. What is IB? • Curriculum that is created, distributed, and evaluated throughout the world at a rigorous college-level standard. • Completing all of the requirements results in an additional (to regular high school) international diploma.

  3. IB Requirements: The hexagon Added German as of 2013-2014 Added Mathematics 2013-2014 Added Theater as of 2013-2014

  4. IB Rigor: • 3 Higher Level Courses (2 years of study – 11th & 12th grades) • 3 Standard Level Courses (generally 1 year of study plus prior experience, such as World Languages or Mathematics) • Theory of Knowledge Course (TOK) • Creativity Action and Service (CAS) • Extended Essay

  5. Curriculum Delivery • Rigorous Honors Coursework in 9th and 10th grades • AP Classes as preparation • Some AP Classes in Combination with IB Classes • IB Classes in 11th and 12th grades

  8. Who should choose IB? • All students who are committed to learning and are motivated to take challenging courses throughout high school. • Applications are available through the office and on the website. There is no exam to become an IB student. How do I choose IB?

IB College Credit Examples • University of California IB Policy • “Students who complete the IB diploma with a score of 30 or above will receive 30 quarter (20 semester) units toward their UC degree. • Designated examinations may be considered equivalent to UC freshman-level courses in the subject and may be used to satisfy general education or breadth requirements. • The units granted for IB exams are not counted toward the maximum number of credits required for declaration of a major or the maximum number of units a student may accumulate prior to graduation. Students who enter the UC with IB credit do not have to declare a major earlier than other students, nor are they required to graduate earlier.” http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/ib-credits/index.html IB students can also take AP exams for additional credits
