  19. JEREMIAH 23:1-8

  20. JEREMIAH’S MESSAGE • True shepherds bring together, lead, and cherish their flock. • Judah’s Kings were doing the reverse. They were destroying, scattering and generally failing to care.

  21. JEREMIAH’S MESSAGE • Conduct has consequences (v. 2). • These Kings, who had abused the trust bestowed upon them, would be punished for their evil.

  22. JEREMIAH’S MESSAGE • True security is to be found in relationship with God (verses 3-4). • Just as God rescued His people from Egypt, so too will God rescue His people from exile.

  23. JEREMIAH’S MESSAGE • “I myself will gather the remnant of my flock out of all the countries where I have driven them ….”

  24. JEREMIAH’S MESSAGE • “The days are coming … when I will raise up a descendant of King David … who will reign wisely … and do what is right in the land … and whose name will be indicative of his nature … the Lord Our Righteousness.”

  25. JEREMIAH’S MESSAGE The different layers foreshadow the Kingdom which … (then) … was to come which … (now) … has come • God will raise up a King, Jesus • He will reign, wisely • If we live under His rule, we will be secure • We do not deserve to live in His Kingdom, but by grace he has made it possible.

  26. JEREMIAH: APPLICATION • Where may true security be found? • How can I support the Create leaders? • Is God perhaps calling me to be a leader?

  27. JEREMIAH 23:1-8 • A righteous “branch” “The days are coming … when I will raise up from David’s line a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land. … This is the name by which he will be called: The Lord Our Righteousness.”
