  1. Thank You

  2. We wanted to do more than just say “thank you” so; we thought we would share some of our trip with you! Leaving at 6 AM- we are enthusiastic and sleepy!!!!! Left to right: Dominick Webb, Blake Carel, Shaylee Crile, Jessica Tone, Hannah Taylor, Jasmin Tone, Kathryn Chabal and Brach Prough.

  3. We arrived in Atlanta about 2 hours before the practice Swiss team competition. We were a little nervous but ready.

  4. We were excited to meet and compete with other youth bridge players from 28 different places including Canada and Hawaii. This map was displayed at the championship. We proudly represented Iowa- thanks to you!

  5. That evening (July 4th), we traveled with some of the Canadian group to Lenox Square to watch an unbelievable fireworks display. It was fun to share it with the Canadians- we introduced them to funnel cakes before the show began. Watching fireworks with 200,000 people (that’s over 20 times as big as our hometown) Wow!!!

  6. The next day we played in the Pairs North American Youth Championship. We played 36 boards starting at 10 a.m. and finishing at 6 p.m. Blake and Dominick at the table in the foreground Jessica and Hannah in the background.

  7. Brach and Shaylee are playing 2 Florida bridge players. There were about 200 youth players at the championship and through the experience we learned a lot. We put some of out thoughts down on paper on the drive home. We thought we would share a few with you. • We learned: • We need to practice more with our partners to really get to know how they play and what their bid is really “saying” to us • We need to have more instruction on conventions • We need to make the most of bidding opportunities • We need to continue to learn how to adapt to different playing styles • Don’t underbid !!!

  8. This is a screen as it appeared on the internet; the adults in the hotel could go to the hotel auditorium and watch the playing action. • During the tournament, Bridge Base Online, was able to present the Youth NABC pairs on vugraph and featured 2 tables. At one point, there were over 500 people from all over the world watching and blogging about the first National Youth Tournament

  9. One of the best things about the trip was getting to know other bridge playing kids from all over the U.S. and Canada! Here Jessica and Kathryn are playing 2 girls from Hawaii. • Other activities we thought were awesome and we could not have experienced in Iowa: • Riding the Marta-Atlanta’s Metro Rail-and we didn’t get lost. • Shopping and looking at the history of Underground Atlanta. • Learning there are a lot of other kids all over the country playing bridge.

  10. Everyone awaiting the final announcements and trophy presentation. • We didn’t get a trophy but all 8 of us earned master points!! We learned much and were so glad to have the opportunity to play in the First Youth Championship and we are already planning practice sessions to get ready for Washington D.C. next year.

  11. The last night we went to downtown Atlanta and ate supper with some other groups at Hard Rock Café! It was a great ending to a great trip!

  12. Posing in front of the banner for next year. Left to right are: Blake, Shaylee, Brach, Dominick, Kathryn, Jessica, Jasmin and Hannah. • Our goals for this coming year: • To start a bridge club at school • To practice and keep improving in our playing abilities • To get more kids excited about bridge and competing in tournaments • Representing Iowa at Washington D.C. in 2009

  13. Again, thank you so much for your help. • Hannah Taylor • Jessica Tone • Shaylee Crile • Blake Carel • Dominick Webb • Jasmin Tone • Brach Prough • Kathryn Chabal
