  4. PRE-AP AND AP COURSES • PRE-AP FRESHMAN SOPHOMORE • *AP JUNIOR SENIOR * MAY BE GRANTED COLLEGE CREDIT IF STUDENT SCORES A 3, 4, OR 5 ON AN ADVANCED PLACEMENT(AP) EXAM. AN ADVANCED MEASURE IS ALSO AWARDED IF COMPLETED BEFORE SENIOR YEAR OFFERED IN ALL CORE AREAS: ENGLISH, MATH, SCIENCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES *REQUIRED FOR ALL MAGNET STUDENTS……ALSO IN SPANISH LANGUAGE, SPANISH LITERATURE, STATISTICS, AND COMPUTER SCIENCE, Numerical grades are now converted to a 4.0 grading scale. Students enrolled in Pre-AP and AP courses can earn a maximum of 4.5 points in each course if the AP exam is not attempted. Students who earn a 3,4, or 5 on an AP exam can earn a maximum of 5 points for that course.

COMMUNITY SERVICERecommended for all students 250 hours required of all Magnet students • Request a letter from a supervisor containing the number of hours completed. • Ensure the document is signed and includes the name of the agency, its address and telephone number. • File your letters in a safe place for future accessibility. • Start a portfolio/resume

Automatic College Admission In accordance with Texas Education Code 51.803, a student is eligible for automatic admission to a public Texas college or university as an undergraduate student ifthe student meets all of the following criteria: • Earns a GPA in the top 10% of the student’s high school graduating class (top 8% for UT Austin) • Successfully completes Recommended or Distinguished Programs. • Satisfies ACT or SAT assessments required by the individual institutions. • Completes application process and meets appropriate deadlines for each individual institution.
