  1. WHY IS SCIENCE IMPORTANT? You don’t study science just to learn the names of interesting elements. In science you learn how to plan, think for yourself, solve problems and reason logically. You work independently and as part of a group. You predict what might happen in a certain situation and learn how to base your conclusions on the evidence available. All these skills are vital in every walk of life. That’s why employers like people to have at least two good science GCSE’s and why science is a core subject along with English and Maths

  2. WHAT SCIENCE COURSE SHOULD I TAKE? • Check your attitude to science against these criteria • I love science it is my favourite subject. • I want to study science at A Level. • I look at the world and I am curious about how it all works • If any of these statements apply to you then you should seriously consider Triple Science (Separate Sciences).

  3. WHY CHOOSE TRIPLE SCIENCE? • You will enjoy the opportunity to spend fifteen hours a fortnight doing science and the opportunity to explore Biology, Chemistry and Physics in more depth. • Triple Science is the best preparation for studying science at A level.

  4. What About Double Science? • There are two double science options • You should choose Science and Additional Science if you just want to leave school with a good understanding of how things happen and with the skills you need to move on into employment or further/higher education • This will be the majority of you

  5. Isn’t there something called Additional Applied Science? • Yes there is, and it is a double science option • It is not a BTEC or a GNVQ. It is a GCSE that looks at science from a work related point of view. • It does not allow you to move on and study science at a A’ Level, but it suits some people. • You need to talk to your science teacher before you opt for Additional Applied Science, it is not the correct option for most people

  6. What about Single Science? • This is not a good choice for the vast majority of you. • You should only choose single science if you cannot fit in all the other options that you need to do for your chosen career. • Students do not really opt for single science, they do it because there is no other way for them to choose there other options.
