Slowing rate of population growth. 3. High literacy levels – both male and female. ‘Left wing’ government for over 30 years. Tradition of female education and female role models. 6. So with reduced IMR women choose have fewer babies so small families are ‘the norm’ so population growth slows. POPULATION CHANGE IN KERALA state – SW INDIA 4. Women go to school, and to university and study nursing / medicine. Good health services in Kerala. 5. Women press for health services and for family planning advice. They know how to look after their babies and how to avoid unwanted pregancies.
