  1. WARM UP #3 In what ways do the planets differ from each other ? (Name at least 5)

  2. Answer to # 3 The planets differ in • temperature • mass • amount of gravitational pull • atmosphere • rings • length of day and year • distance from sun, chemical composition • life forms or not

  3. WARM-UP # 4 • Name the 2 movements that the Earth makes and describe each.

  4. WARM-UP # 4 • Rotation (rotates): occurs when the Earth moves on its axis. This takes 24 hours or 1 day. • Revolution (revolves): occurs when the Earth travels around the sun. This takes 365 ¼ days or 1 year.

  5. WARM-UP # 5 • When it is summer in New Jersey, what season is it in Australia? Explain your answer.

  6. Answer # 5 • It is winter in Australia. When the northern hemisphere (NJ) is tilted toward the sun, the southern hemisphere (Australia) is tilted away from the sun. The Earth’s tilt on its axis causes the seasons.

  7. WARM-UP # 6 • Draw the Earth and label it with tropical, temperate, and polar zones.

  8. Tropical zone Polar zone Temperate zone Temperate zone Polar zone

  9. WARM-UP # 7 • What determines the phases of the moon?

  10. Answer to Question # 7 • The relative positions of the Sun, Earth, and Moon determine the phases of the moon.
